The moon sees somebody I want to see
God bless the moon and God bless me
And God bless the somebody I want to see.
The lyrics of Jim Brickman's song "I See the Moon" convey a simple yet profound sentiment that speaks to the unbreakable relationship between two people separated by distance but united in their shared view of the night sky. The opening line, "I see the moon, the moon sees me," establishes a sense of closeness between the singer and the object of his affection, as though they are both looking up at the same moon, drawing comfort from the fact that they are connected by this shared experience.
The second line, "The moon sees somebody I want to see," reveals that the singer is not alone in this connection to the moon, but is instead gazing up at it with the knowledge that somewhere out there, the person they long to be with is also looking up at the moon, seeing them in turn. This creates a sense of connection and shared longing that is both poignant and deeply relatable.
The final two lines, "God bless the moon and God bless me/And God bless the somebody I want to see," offer a note of gratitude and reverence for the ways in which the natural world can connect us to each other and to a higher power, even when we are physically apart. Through its gentle melody and poetic lyrics, "I See the Moon" speaks to the power of human connection and the ways in which we can find meaning and comfort in the simplest of things.
