Jimmy started his career in 1987 with the QMI/MCA debut release Kick the Wall by Jimmy Davis & Junction. The title song and first single “Kick the Wall” was a top 40 AOR hit as well as an MTV hit video. The group was known for its live appearances and toured all over America.
In 1996, Davis, with guitarist and Junction bandmate Tommy Burroughs, re-formed The Riverbluff Clan, a Memphis rockin'-country-bluegrass outfit from the ‘70's. The band released two critically acclaimed independent CDs. The Clan also appeared in the award winning independent film The Poor & Hungry, directed by Craig Brewer (Hustle and Flow), performing Davis' "Honeysuckle and Kudzu."
In 2004, Jimmy made his solo debut with a CD of self-penned songs entitled Jimmy Daddy's Acoustic Song List. Songs like "Grandmother's Quilt," "Devil's Den," "I Gotta Roll" and "Waiting in the Wings" honor every style of music Davis has ever approached. The Commercial Appeal called it "an unassuming triumph and as honest a record as you're likely to hear."
March of 2006 brought Campfire Songs to the world. It features Jack Holder, Tommy Burroughs, Jim Dickinson, Reba Russell, Alvin Youngblood Hart, Susan Marshall, Richard Bailey, Cowboy Eddie Long and the River Bluff Clan. As the title implies, some songs were actually written around the campfire on hiking and camping trips. Bluegrass and country, stories and hauntings, it's all here.

The pieces of his life and slowly make a start
On reconstructing his entire existence
He knew the transformation would require persistence
Stuck in the tunnel and can see a tiny speck of light
But the one that’s burning inside him would be forever bright
Enough to light the way, regardless of the time of day
There was a time his mind would say
As a teenager, when he wasn’t being used
He was in the background just like a screensaver
So the challenge was to be braver
But it threw up many obstacles
Not least his behaviour
Easily led and easily fed lies
This ground was unwise to illegally tread
He would have to face the storms and baron land
Without a clear sense of direction because he hadn’t planned
I’m making changes
And trading places
I’m changing faces
Replacing James’s
The map he was following
Was nearly as messy and mixed up as the tabs he was swallowing
No begging no borrowing
Just stealing, thieving and plenty of soul hollowing
Decimating his inner self before its discovery
Luckily that would return on his recovery
Until that point well it was learning the hard way
And singing to the tune of crack music like Kanye
Moved to class A from recreational
You lose your personality, it’s irreplaceable
But watch it strip you of your character
And encourage the output of nastiness inside you like a catheter
But it was something that destiny had given him
Delivering trials to make him stronger it wasn’t killing him
Instead it stood him in good stead for the discipline
Required to become something inspired and riveting
I’m making changes
And trading places
I’m changing faces
Replacing James’s
Small changes lead to big changes
But we lose the impetus when the soul disengages
It’s the ground that we’ll be replanted on
The soil we’re turning over from where we’ll be pushing daisies
We should be constantly cultivating,
The stems of our characters and alternating
Between the qualities we need to nurture
To nourish the inner self and to feed us further
In a drought have no doubt
Our brilliance and innovation will provide the irrigation
Usually it’s the things we find the hardest to stop
That aren’t allowing us to fully harvest the crop
Sometimes this is nature’s way
We all have to find the courage to brave and say
That we reroute the ways we follow
Cos small changes today, are big changes tomorrow
