All the Things You Are
Jo Stafford Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Time and again I've longed for adventure,
Something to make my heart beat the faster.
What did I long for? I never really knew.
Finding your love I've found my adventure,
Touching your hand, my heart beats the faster,
All that I want in all of this world is you.

You are the promised kiss of springtime
That makes the lonely winter seem long.
You are the breathless hush of evening
That trembles on the brink of a lovely song.
You are the angel glow that lights a star,
The dearest things I know are what you are.
Some day my happy arms will hold you,

And some day I'll know that moment divine,
When all the things you are, are mine!

The most pure female voice I have ever heard. Brings tears to my eyes when I listen to her. I’m 73 and never saw her perform live. None of today’s singers can hold a candle to her.

I first heard this song in 1940 when I was 9. My mother and I were listening to the Wireless during a bombing raid in Liverpool when this song began playing and I stopped what I was doing and listened. When it was over I said to Mam,"that will always be my best song." and has been ever since, a real tearjerker for me.

I truly love when people share their memories from times that most people haven't lived in. Thank you.

Jo Stafford's voice still sounds like liquid velvet to me. I know a lot of kids today don't like "this kind of music". Well, to them I would point out that you can understand EVERY word she sings, she sings spot on pitch (without the assistance of auto-tune) and she knows how to sing a phrase. Listen to her breathing. You cannot find a pop star alive today who has the ability to sing a long phrase, much less stringing them together to create a meaningful song. She's a marvel!

I was born in 2004 and I love this along with the other renditions of this song Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland. I can hear the difference in emotion and pure conviction even if this music is far before my generation. The type of emotion I haven't heard in the present day

??. Most young people wouldnt know the music more than it being 70 years removed from them than dislike. When bring in untrue facts to prove a seperate point<<<<<
