Princesa
Joaquin Sabina Y Viceversa Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Entre la cirrosis y la sobredosis
Andas siempre muƱeca
Con tu sucia camisa
Y en lugar de sonrisa
Una especie de mueca
CĆ³mo no imaginarte

CĆ³mo no ibas a verte
Fianzas

Ahora es demasiado tarde princesa
BĆŗscate otro perro que te ladre princesa

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to JoaquĆn Sabina's song "Princesa" tell the story of a woman who has fallen from grace, from being a "princess with a strawberry-flavored mouth" just two years ago, to now making her way through life with cirrhosis and overdoses. Sabina describes her as always being a doll, with a dirty shirt and a grimace instead of a smile. He remembers how she used to have a self-destructive streak, but now it is too late for her. Sabina advises her to find another dog to bark at her, suggesting she is not worth his time.

Sabina then turns to blame the "guru" who has created a dark silence between them, and the woman who only comes to him to ask for money. He is no longer afraid of her, but he cannot keep following her on her journey. He reflects on how many times he would have given his life for her just two years ago, but now he can no longer do this. He tells her to find another dog to bark at her, saying that she should not expect him to spend his life paying her bail.

The song is a lament for the loss of someone who was once important in Sabina's life, but who has now become nothing more than a shadow of her former self. It is a warning not to let yourself fall into the same pitfalls as those who came before you.
