His first album featured a recording of the Beatles' "With a Little Help from My Friends", which brought him to near-instant stardom. The song reached number one in the UK in 1968, became a staple of his many live shows (Woodstock and the Isle of Wight in 1969, the Party at the Palace in 2002) and was also known as the theme song for the late 1980s American TV series The Wonder Years. He continued his success with his second album, which included a second Beatles song: "She Came In Through the Bathroom Window". A hastily thrown together 1970 US tour led to the live double-album Mad Dogs & Englishmen, which featured an all-star band organized by Leon Russell. His 1974 recording of "You Are So Beautiful" reached number five in the US, and became his signature song. Cocker's best selling song was the US number one "Up Where We Belong", a duet with Jennifer Warnes that earned a 1983 Grammy Award. He released a total of 22 studio albums over a 43-year recording career.
In 1993, Cocker was nominated for the Brit Award for Best British Male. He was awarded a bronze Sheffield Legends plaque in his hometown in 2007, and received an OBE the following year for services to music. Cocker was ranked number 97 on Rolling Stone's 100 greatest singers list.

There were times
I remember
Had to fight just to hold my head up
Those times when even my friends
tried to make a fool of me
there were things that my heart attacked
that they just couldn't see
Some said I was hopeless
............ tangled in the night
Strong hearts just keep goin
That is why I'm still standing here today
Come together
raise up your voices
This time my song of love and life won't go away
Ill sing forever
here in the sunshine
I've lived to see the sun break through the storm
And I'm so glad I'm standing here today.
If your lost in your troubles
And the world just seems to forget you
If you remember sunshine
even on your darkest day
Just follow what your heart says
And you will find the way
Some said I was hopeless
........... tangled in the night
Strong hearts just keep goin
That is why I'm still standing here today
Come together
raise up your voices
This time my song of love and life won't go away
Ill sing forever
here in the sunshine
I've lived to see the sun break through the storm
And I'm so glad I'm standing here today.
Joe Cocker's song "I'm So Glad I'm Standing Here Today" is a song about perseverance and resilience. The song starts with Cocker expressing his gratitude for being alive and standing there today. He remembers difficult times in his life where he had to fight to hold his head high, even when his friends tried to make a fool of him. Cocker sings that there were things in his heart that his friends just couldn't see, but he kept going anyway. The chorus of the song is about coming together and raising our voices, and how Cocker's love for life and the love he sings about in his song won't go away. He has lived to see the sun break through the storm, and he's so glad he's standing here today.
In the second verse, Cocker sings about troubles and feelings of being forgotten. He advises listeners to remember the sunshine, even on their darkest days, and to follow their hearts to find the way. Cocker digs deep into his own experience of feeling hopeless and tangled in the night, but assures listeners that strong hearts keep going.
Overall, Cocker's "I'm So Glad I'm Standing Here Today" is an uplifting and empowering song that speaks to the human spirit and strength through adversity.

Magnum P.I.: the only tv show that’s ever made me cry, and I’ve seen a lot. The characters were so relatable and real that Magnum seemed like an actual friend. Myself and many, many others have that “little voice” that has saved our asses when we listened to it.
