I discovered satriani;s music one day in 1990 as a teenager when i bought the silver surfer CD just because of the cartoon cover (i had never heard, neither knew his name and did not even know what music genre or even instrument to expect !!) Well it was a shock, like nothing i had ever heard before. After playing it for two months, i searched for another album from him and 'Not of this earth' was the only one. I remember when i picked it up and saw his picture for the first time, i thought that is exactly how i imagined he would look. I remember thinking that Not of This Earth was personal and good music to be alone. It sounded very true to life, there was no embelishment about it, just a pure piece of art. I knew it was special even though very different than Surfing WTA.
Story short a year later i bought an ibanez electric guitar. It was right handed and i am left handed, i progressed very slowly for years, then swapped the strings backwards so i could play left handed, i had to entirely re-learn. Then i bought his music score (i already knew how to read music from playing the organ), but somehow my technique never improved. Later i regretted i didn't buy the JS1 instead of the RG model i think the JS1 was 6300 Francs and the RG was 3300 Francs. My problem was i have long nail beds and you cannot play the fret with nails. Cutting them as far as possible was still not short enough and I never developed good ability. I also had no means to buy a decent amplified +speakers in those days. So i could never get a good distorsion sound, forget about a satriani sound. I ended up playing unplugged most of the time. I also found that outside Satriani, i didn't like guitar music. It was much later that i discovered Jimi Hendrix Blues CD which I also liked. I also liked Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Steve Vai, but not much else. Now i am entirely classical music and i don't play an instrument, but i sometimes return to visit those days in my memory and play this music.

bro it sounds 80s af, that's why i love it. the bassline on The Snake, hahaha. and when the beat kicks on the open track, haha, yes mate, give me all the reverb on the snare! it's 80s af and still fresher and less corny than his new stuff. Satch's weirder stuff is best imo, stuff like NOTE and Time Machine. Holy crap the solo on NOTE the opener is still such a beast, sounds like no one else, and tone is out of this world, or you might say, not of this earth BOOM BOOM!

1:20 to around 2:10 is just mind blowing.

the outro solo (starts at 3:24) is a stroke of genius.

One of my favorites. Isn't it weird how the titles of all his songs are conveyed in the music?! Like the music really makes you think about what the title is. I love it.
Sprained Bent
one of the best songs I've ever heard
