Everyone knows how low that feels
Second thoughts replace what first impressions steal
So they'll be pitfalls, they'll be traps
You're not provided with a map
No secret envelope for you to break the seal
And no one you can send
I'll be your eyes
It's my intention
I'll be your eyes
So just go act the way you do
Deciding things you don't think through
But there's no hospital where broken hearts are mended
All the boys aren't on your side
You're blinded to their little lies
Their stupid fantasies of you have never ended
They're always so strict
You're always the victim
I'll be your eyes
It's my intention
I'll be your eyes
If you're blind with passion
I'll be your eyes
If you've got double vision
I'll be your eyes
Dark indecision
I'll be your eyes
I know I'm just as bad as them
Cos we all want to be your friend
Want to show how all the other guys are colder
So I'm no better than the rest
Say things are fine when
I'm unimpressed
But you seem so at home upon my shoulder
Don't think you'll be burned
No one expects nothing in return
I'll be your eyes
It's my intention
I'll be your eyes
If you're blind with passion
I'll be your eyes
If you've got double vision
I'll be your eyes
Dark indecision
I'll be your eyes
John Wesley's song In Your Eyes is a powerful ballad that effectively portrays the struggle of finding genuine connections in a world full of fake people who want nothing else than to feed their selfish ego. The song begins with a realization that it's hard to be able to connect genuinely with someone because of the barriers, doubts, and fears that society imposes on us. The line "Everyone knows how low that feels" suggests that there is a shared experience of feeling low or invisible, making one wonder if anyone will ever truly see them. However, despite the struggles, the singer makes a promise to be that person for someone else. They acknowledge that there will be pitfalls and traps along the way, but they will be there to guide and support them.
The chorus of the song repeatedly emphasizes the singer's intention to be the eyes of the person they're addressing. This repetition highlights the underlying idea of the song: that connection and the willingness to be there for someone can overcome anything. The verses are full of powerful imagery that helps to accentuate the main idea. For example, the line "But there's no hospital where broken hearts are mended" suggests that heartbreak is a reality, and no one is ever truly prepared for it. People are blinded by the fakeness of others and the constant need to impress them. Wesley's lyrics remind us that these are just unimportant distractions, and true happiness can only stem from authentic relationships.
Overall, John Wesley's "In Your Eyes" is a hopeful and powerful song that emphasizes the importance of genuine connections. Through its clever use of imagery and repetition, the song effectively portrays the struggle of finding and maintaining those connections in a world full of distractions and insincere people.
