What you really want
John Wesley Lyrics

what would you have me do
I could take you to heaven
if you wanted me to
What would you have me give
diamonds and gold
diamonds and gold they mean nothing to me
wanted to be
But what scares me and what tears me
is what you really want
what you really want
and what you really want is...
How would you have me live
how would you have me smile
I could learn to be happy again
if only for a little while
But what scares me and what tears me
is what you really want
and what you really want...
is nothing
For you I would give my soul
for you I would give my life
I am nothing without you, nothing without you
and you I would make my wife
But what scares me and what tears me
is what you really want
and what you really want...
is nothing
The song "What You Really Want" by John Wesley appears to be about a person struggling to understand what their significant other truly desires from them. The lyrics suggest that the singer is willing to go to great lengths to make their partner happy and give them everything they could possibly want, including taking them to heaven and giving them everything they wanted to be. However, the fear and tear in the singer's voice suggests that they are not sure what their partner truly wants and that this is what scares them the most. It seems that no matter what the singer does, it will never be enough to satisfy their partner, who is seeking something beyond material possessions or temporary happiness. The singer is willing to give up everything, including their soul and life, for this person, but they cannot do that if they do not know what it is that the person truly desires.
Overall, "What You Really Want" is a complex and introspective song that explores the fear and uncertainty surrounding relationships, particularly when partners are not sure what each other truly wants. It touches on themes of sacrifice, love, and the struggle to find meaning and fulfillment through the lens of a broken relationship. It is a powerful and emotionally charged song that encourages listeners to reflect on their own experiences and relationships.
