I’ll Find My Way Home
Jon & Vangelis Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You ask me where to begin
Am I so lost in my sin
You ask me where did I fall
I'll say I can't tell you when
But if my spirit is lost
How will I find what is near
Don't question I'm not alone
Somehow I'll find my way home

My sun shall rise in the east
So shall my heart be at peace
And if you're asking me when
I'll say it starts at the end
You know your will to be free
Is matched with love secretly
And talk will alter your prayer
Somehow you'll find you are there.

Your friend is close by your side
And speaks in far ancient tongue
A seasons wish will come true
All seasons begin with you
One world we all come from
One world we melt into one

Just hold my hand and we're there
Somehow we're going somewhere
Somehow we're going somewhere

You ask me where to begin
Am I so lost in my sin
You ask me where did I fall
I'll say I can't tell you when
But if my spirit is strong
I know it can't be long
No questions I'm not alone
Somehow I'll find my way home
Somehow I'll find my way home

Somehow I'll find my way home
Somehow I'll find my way home

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Jon & Vangelis's song "I'll Find My Way Home" are about the search for guidance and direction when feeling lost and disconnected from oneself. The singer is being asked where to begin and if they’re lost in their sins, and they are unable to answer when they fell or where to begin because they are struggling to find their way. However, the singer’s spirit is still strong and they believe that they will eventually find their way back home.

The lyrics also suggest that the search for inner peace and direction begins at the end, meaning that the journey starts with a clear destination in mind. The sun rising in the east symbolizes a new beginning and the potential for peace. The singer believes that the will to be free and love can ultimately provide the guidance and comfort needed to find their way home.

The references to season’s wishes and “one world” suggest that everyone is connected and that we are all part of a larger, shared experience. The singer's friend speaks in an ancient tongue, which implies that wisdom and guidance can come from unexpected sources. The final line, “somehow we’re going somewhere,” implies that despite feeling lost, we are always moving forward and making progress towards our destination.

In 1998 I was in Beaumont hospital with cancer waiting to go for the operation the next day. I just wanted to go home as I was afraid. So I went down to the radio station in the hospital and asked them to play this song for me. It really calmed me down and made me feel that I would make it home. Its now 24 years later and all is good. So thank you Jon and Vangelis you helped save me :)
