Some are born to run
Some are born to fly
It's the essence of the love inbuilt in everyman

Some are born for fun
Some are born for lies
Do not regret a moment living out your life

Some are born to love
Some are born to hide
Through the echoes of the feelings drawn in everyman

Some are born to lose
Some are born to try
For trying harder seems the only way to go

Some are born to run
Some are born to fly
Through the echoes of the feelings drawn in everyman

Some are born to lose
Some are born to try
Trying harder seems the only way to go
Trying harder seems the only way to go

hee we meet, I feel it in the morning light
Getting it together, does it feel right
Ohhh-

Let us be together in the morning light
Let us be together in the dawning light
Ohhh-
Let it through
Let it through

Some are born to run
Some are born to fly
It's the essence of the love inbuilt in everyman

Some are born for fun
Some are born for lies
Do not regret a moment living out your life

Some are born to run
Some are born to fly
Through the echoes of the feelings drawn in everyman

Some are born to run
Some are born to fly
Then we spend some time just hanging around
Them we spend some time just hanging around

Overall Meaning

The opening lines of Towa taya taka tai has a haunting quality that leads to a chorus that speaks of existential purpose. The song is essentially a musing on the human condition; the fact that everyone is born with a different set of skills and circumstances that govern their lives. The first verse talks about how some people are born to run or fly, to achieve great things, while the chorus emphasizes that this drive to excel is a fundamental aspect of humanity, present in every man, woman, and child. It is this drive that gives the human spirit its essential glow, even in the face of adversity.

The second verse takes a more somber tone, highlighting how some people are born for fun or lies, and it is important not to have any regrets about how one chooses to live their life. The bridge speaks of the feeling of connection with others, which seems to occur most readily in the morning light. The final chorus talks of hanging out with friends and also emphasizes the running and flying motif, but this time acknowledging that not everyone has equal opportunities in life.

Overall, Jon Anderson's song "Some are born" is an ode to the diversity of the human experience. It celebrates the different paths that different people take and encourages the listener to embrace their own unique journey while also recognizing the shared drive that connects everyone together.

I love this album...it was part of your solo work that helped with my anxiety decades ago. I listened to your music on planes, especially where I had difficulty. I soared inside while the plane soared toward New Mexico. Thank you for your soaring melodies and intentions! Being in dreaming...Love!

In December of 1980 I was a homeless aspiring singer living on the streets of Los Angeles in a van.
Always being a big Yes fan I decided my last few dollars were better spent buying Jon's new cassette than eating.
How right I was! To say it kept me alive would be a big understatement. It empowered me, blessed me, kept me positive,
Filled me more than any meal ever could.....now just shy of 40 years letter..... I just found and played that same cassette
yes sonically it was not so good(ordered the cd) but it did the same thing now it did way back then....amazing..
So many dreamers in this life between a moments time....telling me there is something more to cling onto....
Thankyou Jon Anderson

I bought this album the day it came out. Jon Anderson's first solo album since leaving Yes. It was 1980. Great song and a great album. I was in the United States Air Force at the time and it was very inspiring. Having been a fan of Yes since I was a young child in the very early 1970s, it was so good to hear Jon singing again and this song is very deep.

Beautiful, happy music. Thank you so much for posting.....I still remember the day I bought the album in 1981. I was 16 years old in Orlando, Florida......It seems like yesterday. The music still holds up incredibly well today.
