Dear God
Jonas Brothers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Dear God,
I'd hate to be a bother, but I gotta say
This world is getting crazier with every day
I hope you'll hear me out now as I stop and pray

Dear God,
People take your words and try to twist them 'round
I know you can't be happy with what's going down
I'm searching for some answers but they can't be found
Can you help me out, dear God?

Dear God,
Just the other night I heard somebody say
What's the use believing in you anyway
I guess it was just heartache talking through the pain
It's a crying shame

Dear God,
I know you're disappointed in the things we've done
Can't they see the truth that they're all running from?
Trying to preach a message with a loaded gun
What they thinking of, dear God?

Everybody's searching for an easy solution, yeah
They can't see beyond the selfish world they're living in
Words of love get lost in all the confusion, yes they do
But I still believe... someday you're gonna speak to me

Dear God,
I know you've got a million other calls to take
You're dealing with a lot of things that just won't wait
But there is one request that I just gotta make

Dear God,
Won't you send a sign down just to ease my doubt
I'm trying to hear you but the silence is so loud

I think I see a rainbow from behind the clouds
And I hear you now, dear God

Overall Meaning

The Jonas Brothers' song "Dear God" is an emotional and introspective examination of the struggles and questions that arise about faith and belief in a constantly changing world. The opening lines express the singer's hesitant plea to God to listen to his worries and concerns about the state of the world, indicating a sense of feeling powerless and small in the face of life's challenges. The lyrics then go on to critique the ways in which people use religion and faith to justify violence, ignorance, and discrimination.

The song is also an exploration of the singer's own struggles with belief and doubt, particularly in the face of heartbreak, confusion, and disillusionment. He asks for a sign or message from God to help him feel more connected and reassured in his faith, and expresses a desire to see beyond the "selfish world" and find a deeper sense of purpose and meaning. Ultimately, the song ends on a hopeful note, with the singer acknowledging the possibility of someday hearing from God and finding a way to navigate the challenges of life with faith and strength.

Overall, "Dear God" is a poignant and sincere expression of the complexities of faith and belief, particularly in an uncertain and often tumultuous world.

Im like "Why am i only hearing this song now?"😃😃..Little Nick Jonas was full of annointing, So i pray that what He sang in this song years ago to echo in His heart as of today so that He can be Reminded one more time that Jesus Christ still Exists and He loves Him still and He's waiting for Him to make Him His Lord and Saviour!
