Nessun Dorma
José Cura Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Nessun dorma! Nessun dorma!
Tu pure, o, principessa,

No, no, sulla tua bocca lo diró
Quando la luce splenderá!

Ed il mio bacio sciogliera il silenzio
Che ti fa mia!

(il nome suo nessun saprá!...
E noi dovrem, ahimé, morir!)

Dilegua, o notte!
Tramontate, stelle!
Tramontate, stelle!

All'alba vinceró!
Vinceró, vinceró!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of José Cura's song Nessun dorma are a conversation between the singer and the princess he loves but cannot reveal his identity to. The phrase "Nessun dorma" (none shall sleep) is a declaration of determination, as the singer vows to stay awake until he has won the princess's heart. He acknowledges that the princess is alone in her cold room, looking at the trembling stars with love and hope. The singer reveals that his mystery lies within himself, that nobody knows his name. However, he assures the princess that he will reveal it to her when the light will shine. Finally, he expresses that his kiss will break the silence that makes her his, and they will win at dawn.

He lost his voice and in the beginning he had
some potential.  But hearing him several years
later on youtube extremely poor technique
and almost a ruined voice.  I am very
familiar with bel canto and its solid breathing
technique I practice it almost everyday.
In opera one must protect the vocal chords
and not sing roles they are not suited to.
This creates the wobble and if you do not
use the diaphragm and anchor correctly you
will not have a long career.  The above singers mentioned used bel canto, Pavarotti, etc.

He's an Hispanic opera singer and he started many years ago, he moved to Europe to sing in the great scenarios and to sing the best known operas of all time!
His voice is so powerful and so beautiful!

@adfontesaquarum

@GINA6063 He is Spanish by jus sanguinis, born in Argentina. He was educated in one of the most demanding opera schools in the world, the Instituto Superior de Arte del Teatro Colón, where my own father studied years ago. I can witness the excellent quality of the artists formed there.

@joetursi9573

So true. He stopped singing operas to do solo events. He has it all. Very powerful voice.
