Joydrop Lyrics

You would see it so clearly if you'd just come closer
Didn't it work for you, why did you spit it out
It would have gone down so much easier
If you didn't swallow it whole
Now I'm so afraid of losing my way
And I can't afford to make mistakes
We can all be replaced
When nothing hurts and nothing matters
The thing you were looking for, I think it was always there
You would have seen it
All you had to do was turn around
No more hanging on to the promises they make
We'll just hang on to the moments
'Cause we can all be replaced
So what are you staring at, what are you laughing at
Doesn't it ever stop, don't you know
That bridges burn
And tables turn
In these lyrics from Joydrop's song "Replaced," the singer is addressing someone who is laughing or mocking them. They suggest that if this person were to come closer, they would be able to see things more clearly. The singer also questions why this person rejected something that would have been easier to accept if they hadn't tried to swallow it whole. The singer then voices their fear of making mistakes and being replaced, emphasizing that everyone is replaceable when nothing seems to matter.
The lyrics take a fairly existential approach, expressing a sense of futility and loss of direction. The singer seems to be struggling with their own identity and value, feeling like they could be easily replaced or forgotten. The repeated question of "what are you staring at, what are you laughing at" helps to reinforce this sense of questioning and uncertainty.
One interesting aspect of this song is that it was released in 1999, but has since gained popularity through its use in various TV and film projects. For example, it was featured in the TV series "Dark Angel" and the film "American Pie 2." Another interesting fact is that Joydrop is a Canadian band that was formed in 1993, and "Replaced" was included on their second album, "Viberate."
