7.- sands of time
Judas Priest Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The winds of change are everywhere
And all the world must be aware
There's nowhere left for man to go
The sands of time are running low

These visions fall before my face
I see the end of humans race
These feelings rise inside my soul
And everything's out of control

The winds of change (Repeat 2X)
Are in the air (Repeat 2X)

The winds of change (Repeat 2X)
Are everywhere

Overall Meaning

"Sand of Time" by Judas Priest is a song that captures the essence of the fear of the unknown. It highlights the perception of imminent danger that is present in the world today. The lyrics describe the atmosphere of despair and doom that has taken hold of humanity as they look around and realize that the sands of time are running out.

These lines reflect the idea that humanity is at a loss because they have no more places to go. The winds of change are sweeping across the world, and it is widespread, causing people to feel lost and without hope. The phrase "There's nowhere left for man to go" means there are no more options for people to take in face of the changes that are happening around them.

The singer then proceeds to describe a vision that is presenting itself to them. They see the end of humanity's existence, and this sends chills down their spine. The feeling of dread and despair continues to intensify, causing the singer to feel that everything is out of control. The constant repetition of the phrase, "The winds of change are everywhere," and "The winds of change are in the air," creates a mood of urgency that reflects the dire situation that humanity is facing.

"Pestilence And Plague"

The storms from the gods make us
Perish with hunger
Starvation and drought
Are unleashed on this earth
Reap what you sow
From our greed and our treasures
Far more than we need
Now far more than we're worth

[Chorus:]
Nella tentazione
Cercando la gloria
Il prezzo da pagare
E' la caduta dell'uomo
[English translation:
In temptation,
seeking for glory,
the price to pay
is the fall of mankind]

How can we live in despair and in sorrow?
Our children are lost
With all that we love
Plague spreading forth
To lay waste to our culture
Civilization's demise from above

[Chorus]

This world revolves and I foretell
The end of man resides in hell
For you can see that in my heart
We will depart

[Chorus]

Nella tentazione (Into temptation)
Cercando la gloria (In search of glory)
Il prezzoda pagare (The price we pay)
E'la caduta dell'uomo (The fall of man)

This is really more of a rock opera than an album. It is extremely well performed and produced. Don't compare it to their metal albums,it's a beautiful story put to music by awesomely talented musicians.

@jorggamingcr409

In KK Downing's biography he says he dreamed of making a huge live show opera style with the album, but the rest of the band (Tipton cough cough) were not liked the idea nor their manager. He said if JP would have had the type of manager Iron Maiden or Metallica had JP would have been much bigger with shows and sales...

More people need to be aware of this great work.  The album is an underrated jewel.

@pilotamurorei

It is, because regular priest fans hate power metal and hated this album because it was completely power metal sounding. One of the greatest priest albums ever. Also, don't forget Jugulator, that album is probably priest's best outside of Painkiller.

pilotamurorei It's not that JP fans don't like Power Metal, it's that JP frankly sucks at Power/symphonic Metal. Nostradamus is a failed experiment imo, it lacks momentum and energy, the whole album puts me to sleep.

There are frankly, better concept albums out there (e.g Ayreon)
