Electric Eye
Judas Priest Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Up here in space
I'm looking down on you
My lasers trace
Everything you do

You think you've private lives
Think nothing of the kind
There is no true escape
I'm watching all the time

I'm made of metal
My circuits gleam
I am perpetual
I keep the country clean

I'm elected electric spy
I'm protected electric eye

Always in focus
Can't feel my stare
I zoom into you
But you don't know I'm there

I take a pride in probing all your secret moves
My tearless retina takes pictures that can prove

I'm made of metal
My circuits gleam
I am perpetual
I keep the country clean

I'm elected, electric spy
I'm protected, electric eye

Electric eye, in the sky
Feel my stare, always there

There's nothing you can do about it
Develop and expose
I feed upon your every thought
So my power grows

I'm made of metal
My circuits gleam
I am perpetual
I keep the country clean

I'm elected, electric spy
I'm protected, electric eye

I'm elected, electric spy
I'm elected, protective, detective, electric eye

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Judas Priest's song "Electric Eye" depict a narrator, who personifies a satellite or camera, looking down on humanity with complete surveillance. The singer is described as being "made of metal" with "gleaming circuits," suggesting that this entity is mechanical and unfeeling. The lyrics suggest that privacy is an illusion, and that no one can escape the electric eye's all-seeing gaze.

The words "tearless retina takes pictures that can prove" suggest that this surveillance entity is working to gather detailed information on everyone it observes. The final lines of the song reinforce the theme of this invasive technology growing in power, as the electric eye "feeds upon your every thought." The song can be interpreted as a critique of the growing use of surveillance technology in society and the loss of privacy that accompanies it.

Overall, "Electric Eye" is a powerful and thought-provoking song that makes a statement about the importance of privacy in a world of increasing digital surveillance.

@Dirty Doctor Dan these lyrics are cheesy ?

The lyrics in “Electric Eye” describe how satellites can watch your every move on earth, how we are being monitored…..

the lyrics are quite ahead of their time. Even though they had satellites in early 1980, there was not a lot compared to today.

Lyrics are inspired by the book “1984” by George Orwell, where “Big Brother” is called Electric Eye and he watches over everybody and knows what they do.

This song might be the one with the least cheesy lyrics in Judas Priest entire discography, and it portrays todays reality for a large portion of the world.

So, when you claim these lyrics are cheesy, you show that you have absolutely zero clue, about anything or anyone.

Have you even READ the lyrics ? Unbelievable….

I saw them last year. I’m 52 and to have his voice vibrating my body in person was amazing.

I saw him at Bloodstock last year. Sounded better than he does here. The man ages like wine.
