The band's membership has seen much turnover, including a revolving cast of drummers in the 1970s and the departure of singer Rob Halford in 1992. Tim "Ripper" Owens, formerly of Winter's Bane, replaced Halford in 1996 and recorded two albums with Judas Priest, before Halford returned to the band in 2003. The current line-up consists of Halford, guitarists Glenn Tipton and Richie Faulkner, bassist Ian Hill and drummer Scott Travis. The band's best-selling album is 1982's Screaming for Vengeance, with their most commercially successful line-up featuring Ian Hill, Rob Halford, Glenn Tipton, guitarist K. K. Downing, and drummer Dave Holland. Tipton and Hill are the only two members of the band to appear on every album.
Halford's operatic vocal style and the twin guitar sound of Downing and Tipton have been a major influence on heavy metal bands. Judas Priest's image of leather, spikes, and other taboo articles of clothing were widely influential during the glam metal era of the 1980s. The Guardian referred to British Steel as the record that defines heavy metal. Despite a decline in exposure during the mid-1990s, the band has once again seen a resurgence, including worldwide tours, being inaugural inductees into the VH1 Rock Honors in 2006, receiving a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance in 2010, and having their songs featured in video games such as Guitar Hero and the Rock Band series. In 2022, Judas Priest were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Bloodstone
Judas Priest Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It's sending me out of my mind
I've seen reason
Change to treason
It's losing its sense of all kind
How much longer will it take for the world to see
We should learn to live and simply let it be
Bloodstone
Bloodstone
Bloodstone
Bloodstone
In the night time
Wake in fright
I'm so scared of the game that's being played
Start to wonder what's going under
And how many deals have been made
How much longer will it take for the world to see
We should learn to live and simply let it be
Bloodstone
Bloodstone
Bloodstone
Bloodstone
Bloodstone
Bloodstone
Bloodstone
Bloodstone
Bloodstone
Bloodstone
Bloodstone
Bloodstone
Bloodstone (I can't, I can't take it)
Bloodstone (you got me living)
Bloodstone (I don't want that)
Bloodstone
The opening of Judas Priest's "Bloodstone" has a frantic, almost manic energy that immediately sets the tone for a song that is equal parts desperation and anger. The singer is clearly struggling with the state of the world around him, feeling like everything is falling apart and that his own sanity might soon follow. He’s reaching the point where he can no longer deny the struggles he’s dealing with, and it’s pushing him over the edge.
As the lyrics progress, the singer begins to call for a sense of reason and unity, urging the world to come together and work towards peace rather than succumbing to violence and anger. And yet, even as he calls for peace, there is a sense of fear and desperation in his voice. He’s acutely aware of the danger that surrounds him, afraid of the "game" that is being played and the deals that have already been made. The repetition of the words "bloodstone" throughout the song underscores this sense of danger, likening the situation to a precious but potentially deadly gem.
Overall, "Bloodstone" is a song about the struggle to maintain one's sense of self and sanity in a world that is increasingly chaotic and dangerous, and the desperate hope for unity and peace that lies at the core of that struggle.
