The band's membership has seen much turnover, including a revolving cast of drummers in the 1970s and the departure of singer Rob Halford in 1992. Tim "Ripper" Owens, formerly of Winter's Bane, replaced Halford in 1996 and recorded two albums with Judas Priest, before Halford returned to the band in 2003. The current line-up consists of Halford, guitarists Glenn Tipton and Richie Faulkner, bassist Ian Hill and drummer Scott Travis. The band's best-selling album is 1982's Screaming for Vengeance, with their most commercially successful line-up featuring Ian Hill, Rob Halford, Glenn Tipton, guitarist K. K. Downing, and drummer Dave Holland. Tipton and Hill are the only two members of the band to appear on every album.
Halford's operatic vocal style and the twin guitar sound of Downing and Tipton have been a major influence on heavy metal bands. Judas Priest's image of leather, spikes, and other taboo articles of clothing were widely influential during the glam metal era of the 1980s. The Guardian referred to British Steel as the record that defines heavy metal. Despite a decline in exposure during the mid-1990s, the band has once again seen a resurgence, including worldwide tours, being inaugural inductees into the VH1 Rock Honors in 2006, receiving a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance in 2010, and having their songs featured in video games such as Guitar Hero and the Rock Band series. In 2022, Judas Priest were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Judas Priest Lyrics

You know every boy and girl
Goes crazy to the beat of rock n' roll
And as the volume is soaring, all the crowd is roaring
Let it roll
Well, we don't care in the least, cause our metal is a feast
But there's always someone tryin' to put it down
And our voices turn to power
With a wall of sound we'll blow 'em all away
Rock you all around the world
We're gonna rock
We're gonna roll
We're gonna shake you down
We're gonna lose control
No one can hold us down, just look around and see
This generation's getting up, and breakin' free
Rock you all around the world
We're gonna rock, we're gonna rock you
"All around the world" is an anthem to the power of rock and roll music. It communicates the universality of the genre- how is it enjoyed and celebrated by young and old, rich and poor, and by people from every corner of the planet. The song is a tribute to the connection that rock music creates between the musician and the listener. The lyrics suggest a kind of unity that is felt across borders and cultures by the sheer force and energy of the music. The song communicates an ethos of acceptance and inclusion - anyone can join in the celebration of rock and roll music.
The lyrics also talk about the resilience needed to maintain a love for a musical genre that is often dismissed and derided as "not real music". Referring to metal music as a "feast", the songwriters deify it as something worthy of attention and admiration. The music is represented as louder and more powerful than those who try and "put it down", showcasing how it can buck against the establishment's traditional stances. The song is about standing up to authority figures or naysayers, fighting for what you love, and celebrating it with others who feel the same way.

[Intro]
Twisting the strangle grip
Won't give no mercy
Feeling those tendons rip
Torn up and mean
[Verse 1]
Twisting the strangle grip
Won't give no mercy
Feeling those tendons rip
Torn up and mean
Blastmaster racks the ground
Bent on survival
Full throttle hammers down
A deadly scream
[Chorus]
All guns, all guns blazing
All guns, all guns blazing
[Verse 2]
Forced into overdrive
Drawn out of anger
All talons poison dipped
Impaling spike
Heart pounding fever pitch
Blood pumping fury
Two fisted dynamo
Eager to strike
[Chorus]
All guns, all guns blazing
All guns, all guns blazing
[Instrumental Break]
[Verse 3]
Cross cutting thundercharge
Blade of destruction
Flame throwing hurricane
Destroys the cage
Bone crushing alien
God of salvation
Sad wings that heaven sent
Wipes out in rage
[Chorus]
All guns, all guns blazing
All guns, all guns blazing
