The band's membership has seen much turnover, including a revolving cast of drummers in the 1970s and the departure of singer Rob Halford in 1992. Tim "Ripper" Owens, formerly of Winter's Bane, replaced Halford in 1996 and recorded two albums with Judas Priest, before Halford returned to the band in 2003. The current line-up consists of Halford, guitarists Glenn Tipton and Richie Faulkner, bassist Ian Hill and drummer Scott Travis. The band's best-selling album is 1982's Screaming for Vengeance, with their most commercially successful line-up featuring Ian Hill, Rob Halford, Glenn Tipton, guitarist K. K. Downing, and drummer Dave Holland. Tipton and Hill are the only two members of the band to appear on every album.
Halford's operatic vocal style and the twin guitar sound of Downing and Tipton have been a major influence on heavy metal bands. Judas Priest's image of leather, spikes, and other taboo articles of clothing were widely influential during the glam metal era of the 1980s. The Guardian referred to British Steel as the record that defines heavy metal. Despite a decline in exposure during the mid-1990s, the band has once again seen a resurgence, including worldwide tours, being inaugural inductees into the VH1 Rock Honors in 2006, receiving a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance in 2010, and having their songs featured in video games such as Guitar Hero and the Rock Band series. In 2022, Judas Priest were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Judas Priest Lyrics

I need a steel blue heart walkin' down the street
With your razor nails, and your painted smile
You're gonna get richer, I gotta get wild
Anytime you want to
Anyway you need
Get your love for money there, satisfaction guaranteed
Wo oh, love zone
You know what I mean
Wo oh, love zone
Live that fantasy
I'm behind the wheel, throttle open wide
The gas tanks full, do you want to ride
Drivin' in the fast lane at night
I can't keep my eyes off your red tail light
You know where we're goin'
I know where where are
Set the rear view mirror for
The backseat or the car
Wo oh, love zone
You know what I mean
Wo oh, love zone
Live that fantasy
In your leather and chrome you're all the rage
All you want to do is get backstage
You heard all the stories, are they true
The rock 'n' roll circus is calling you
When you get there baby
You'll be hypnotized
Never seen nothin' like it no
You won't believe your eyes
Wo oh, love zone
You know what I mean
Wo oh, love zone
Live that fantasy
Wo oh, love zone
You know what I mean
Wo oh, love zone
Live that fantasy
Everybody get in
Everybody get in that love zone
The lyrics to Judas Priest's song Love Zone describe the desire for instant gratification and pleasure in the form of a reckless and hedonistic lifestyle. The singer has been up all night and can't sleep, longing for someone who embodies both danger and excitement. This person is described as having a "steel blue heart" and "razor nails," with a painted smile that promises riches. The singer acknowledges that they must get wild in order to win this person's attention, showing that they are willing to take risks and live on the edge in pursuit of pleasure.
The chorus of the song emphasizes the thrill of living in the moment and indulging in fantasies. The "love zone" is a metaphor for a state of mind where nothing else matters except for the pursuit of pleasure. The lyrics suggest that this experience is something that everyone desires, as the singer sings "everybody get in / everybody get in that love zone."
The second verse continues the theme of living recklessly by describing a high-speed car chase. The singer is driving with the throttle open wide and can't take their eyes off the person they desire. The chorus repeats, reinforcing the idea that this lifestyle is about living in the moment and indulging in fantasies.
Overall, the song Love Zone celebrates a reckless and hedonistic lifestyle that is focused solely on pleasure and instant gratification. The lyrics paint a picture of a wild and dangerous world where consequences are ignored in favor of living in the moment.
