The band's membership has seen much turnover, including a revolving cast of drummers in the 1970s and the departure of singer Rob Halford in 1992. Tim "Ripper" Owens, formerly of Winter's Bane, replaced Halford in 1996 and recorded two albums with Judas Priest, before Halford returned to the band in 2003. The current line-up consists of Halford, guitarists Glenn Tipton and Richie Faulkner, bassist Ian Hill and drummer Scott Travis. The band's best-selling album is 1982's Screaming for Vengeance, with their most commercially successful line-up featuring Ian Hill, Rob Halford, Glenn Tipton, guitarist K. K. Downing, and drummer Dave Holland. Tipton and Hill are the only two members of the band to appear on every album.
Halford's operatic vocal style and the twin guitar sound of Downing and Tipton have been a major influence on heavy metal bands. Judas Priest's image of leather, spikes, and other taboo articles of clothing were widely influential during the glam metal era of the 1980s. The Guardian referred to British Steel as the record that defines heavy metal. Despite a decline in exposure during the mid-1990s, the band has once again seen a resurgence, including worldwide tours, being inaugural inductees into the VH1 Rock Honors in 2006, receiving a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance in 2010, and having their songs featured in video games such as Guitar Hero and the Rock Band series. In 2022, Judas Priest were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Sea of Red
Judas Priest Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And you'll hear voices on the wind
Those lonely whispers from this hallowed ground
Just take your time as they begin
As the sun goes down
The silence is profound
For they gave so much
Laying peaceful they forgive
In the sea of red
There are stories to be told
As the years go by
All the memories unfold
Bow your head
In fields of wonder where those swallows soar
Our hearts are weary as we pray
The grass is greener from the tears that fall
For you on this remembrance day
Your message has been heard
Words of wisdom have been shared
Their despair won't matter as they rise above
There is no end to love
In the sea of red
There are stories to be told
As the years go by
All the memories unfold
Bow your head
Sea of red
From this earth take wing (from this earth take wing)
Shine down from the sky (shine down from the sky)
We see you as you fly (we see you as you fly)
In the sea of red
There are stories to be told
As the years go by
All the memories unfold
Bow your head
Sea of red
On the sea of red
Where the glory has no end
There's a place for us
As our lives begin again
Bow your head
Sea of red
The song Sea of Red by Judas Priest is a tribute to the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. The song speaks of the loneliness and hollowness that one feels as they walk around the graves of these soldiers, but also acknowledges the incredible sacrifice that they made to ensure that people can continue to live. The line "they gave so much so we might go on and live" reflects this idea. As the sun sets, the silence becomes all-consuming, and the voices of the departed begin to speak through the wind, as if urging people to remember and pay their respects.
The song also acknowledges the power of memory, and how it can unfold as the years go by. The memories of these soldiers become stories that are passed down from one generation to another. And as the grass grows green from the tears that fall, people bow their heads in honor and remembrance. The song speaks of the hope that these soldiers will rise above their despair, and that there is no end to love.

He is alive in the after life , probably having a drink with , Jimmy , Janice , Eddie and too many others that departed way to fucking soon, along with our loved ones.Bet he was and still is a great man .My awesome mom passed on the 19th, she always told me we do not die , we evolve, i believe her .Take care and be strong everyone ..Peace...
@DomeShot
My father never took me anywhere because he and my mom divorced when I was 5, I'm 50 now. I for some reason still love the man, he's 74 now. I've seen The Priest at Ozzfest in 2004, along with Black Sabbath and so many great heavy metal bands. I'm taking my son to his first concert to see his favorite band SKILLET. THEN, I'm going to see The Priest September 29th at the Mission Ballroom in Denver, Colorado. It won't be the same not seeing the other metal God Glenn Tipton, but it should be badass nonetheless!!

This song was perfect to be the last song on the Firepower album!! I love this album so much!! I still listen to it very often. I have been a huge massive Judas Priest fan for over thirty years, and I love them now more than ever. I am really looking forward to their next album. There are not many bands that have been around as long as Judas Priest that are still putting out amazing albums. Black Sabbath are the Godfathers of Heavy Metal music, but Judas Priest perfected it. Long live the METAL GODS!!!!!

couldn't have said it better. lml

It's too bad that Priest has yet to perform "Sea of Red" live. It is an awesome power ballad in the tradition of "Dreamer Deceiver"/"Deceiver," "Here Come the Tears," "Beyond the Realms of Death," and "Living Bad Dreams."
