The band released two more albums, Discouraged Ones (1998) and Tonight's Decision (1999), before settling into a stable quintet lineup for all of the 2000s. The band released four more albums with said lineup: Last Fair Deal Gone Down (2001), Viva Emptiness (2003), The Great Cold Distance (2006) and Night Is the New Day (2009), with the band slowly moving away from their metal sound while adding more progressive rock sounds to their work over time. While lineup changes started up again into the 2010s, Renkse and Nyström persisted, and the band continued on to release their ninth and tenth studio albums, Dead End Kings (2012) and The Fall of Hearts (2016). After touring in support of the album through 2017, the band entered a hiatus at the beginning of 2018. The band returned from their hiatus in February 2019, with their eleventh studio album, City Burials, released in April 2020 and twelfth studio album, Sky Void of Stars (2023).

One Year from Now
Katatonia Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Will I stand up for what I've become
Everything I have I will give you
And everything I own I owe you
One year from now dare I call you mine
A year ahead from now it's a different time
The lyrics of Katatonia's One Year from Now express an introspective moment of self-reflection and uncertainty about the future. The singer of the song is questioning whether they will be strong enough to face the challenges that lie ahead one year from now. They question whether they will be able to stand up for who they have become, implying that they have undergone a significant personal transformation in the recent past.
The second stanza reveals the singer's feelings of indebtedness to someone else. They express a willingness to give away everything they have in exchange for something they apparently owe this other person. The exact nature of this exchange is left ambiguous, but it seems to be a weighty and significant commitment. Finally, the song concludes with the singer reflecting upon a future in which they can call this other person "mine." Again, the specific context is left to the imagination, but the implication is that the singer is seeking or hoping for a deeper relationship with someone, and that they are unsure whether or not this will come to fruition in the coming year.
