The band released two more albums, Discouraged Ones (1998) and Tonight's Decision (1999), before settling into a stable quintet lineup for all of the 2000s. The band released four more albums with said lineup: Last Fair Deal Gone Down (2001), Viva Emptiness (2003), The Great Cold Distance (2006) and Night Is the New Day (2009), with the band slowly moving away from their metal sound while adding more progressive rock sounds to their work over time. While lineup changes started up again into the 2010s, Renkse and Nyström persisted, and the band continued on to release their ninth and tenth studio albums, Dead End Kings (2012) and The Fall of Hearts (2016). After touring in support of the album through 2017, the band entered a hiatus at the beginning of 2018. The band returned from their hiatus in February 2019, with their eleventh studio album, City Burials, released in April 2020 and twelfth studio album, Sky Void of Stars (2023).

Premonition
Katatonia Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
In some time I will change my name and lay low
In the light you can see me walk down by the way
The one who did this to us well he got away
Keep it quiet here I will not tolerate your noise
This is where I listen for the forgiving voice
The lyrics of Katatonia's song "A Premonition" deal with the feelings of helplessness and anxiety that arise when a person feels as though they are living in a world that is beyond their control. The singer refers to a vague and ominous sense of foreboding that he cannot fully explain, but that nonetheless makes him feel as though some kind of catastrophe is about to occur. He warns his listeners to "stand aside now no one will survive," suggesting that the danger he senses is too great for anyone to escape.
The singer goes on to express his own sense of powerlessness in the face of this looming threat. He hints that he may be forced to go into hiding, changing his name and laying low in order to protect himself from whatever it is that is coming. He also expresses a sense of frustration with the world around him, blaming an unnamed culprit for the situation he now finds himself in. Throughout the song, there is a sense of urgency and a mounting feeling of dread, as though something terrible is about to happen.
Overall, "A Premonition" is a song that explores the complex emotions that can come up when a person feels as though they are trapped in a world that is beyond their control. Through its haunting melodies and evocative lyrics, it paints a picture of a world where danger lurks around every corner, and where the only defense is to keep your ear to the ground and remain vigilant at all times.
