Starting at age sixteen, Rose began work on her debut album, Because I Can, for V2 Records. The record's lead single, Overdrive, was released on October 21, 2003 with the album following on January 27, 2004. The album was met with mixed critical reception and moderate success leading to only one other single being released, I Like. In addition to this, Rose was also featured on the soundtracks of the films Mean Girls and Thirteen.
In 2005, Rose parted ways with V2 Records. She then started work on her band project, Candy Eyed, which was released on June 4, 2007 under independent record label, River Jones Music. Rose parted ways with the label shortly after the albums release for unknown reasons. Following her second partition, Rose started work on a third album titled Tangled But True. The album was expected to be released in 2009 under a new Japanese label, but was ultimately shelved. Currently Rose is in the process of recording a new album set to be released sometime this year.

Blare the music and have a swoon
I can't stop thinkin' of your face
La la lee la lee loo lace
I'm six feet under the Bhodi Tree
With my crap new-age philosophy
Diamonds where there once were stars
Yea yea-a I'm independence
Yea yea-a I'm borderline
Yea yea-a I'm California
My minds all screwed and upside down
But my hearts on overdrive (yea my hearts on overdrive)
I need to take a shower when I look at you
Ya sting and hurt like a bad tattoo
I wish you'd change my point of view
I cruise the canyon to get a breeze
With Hidden Treasures up my sleeve
I like the light and hate the heat
But I'll lick the blood right off your street
Yea yea-a I'm cherry cola
Yea yea-a I'm candy-eyed
Yea yea-a I'm California
My mind's all screwed and upside down
But my heart's on over drive
They all come here to find a scene
but end up girls on methadrine
naked on a TV screen
The dreams that fall beneath my feet
make my footsteps feel so sweet
But your kisses are my fait acconpli
Yeah, yeah
I'm independence
yea-a I'm borderline
Yea-a I'm California
My mind's all screwed and upsidedown
But my heart's on overdrive
Yea my heart's on overdrive
Katy Rose sings about the reckless and carefree lifestyle of a young California girl in her song Overdrive. The lyrics in the song describe the singer's typical day, starting with waking up at noon and blasting music, followed by constant thoughts of the person whose face she cannot get out of her head. Then, she talks about her pseudo-philosophical beliefs while sitting under the Bodhi tree, and the diamonds that replace the stars.Β In the chorus, she proclaims her independence and borderline personality while claiming to be "California." However, she admits her disorientation while acknowledging her heart's overwhelming passion.
In the second verse, the girl talks about being attracted to someone who is not necessarily good for her. She knows that person is like a bad tattoo that will sting her and hurt her but is still unable to stay away from them. She also mentions driving through the canyon, but the heat and light both annoy her. She like Hidden Treasures and being able to find them using her knowledge of the area. But even after such an exciting adventure, she claims to like the blood on the street, again showing her reckless nature.Β The bridge talks about the people who come to California to find their dreams, but in the end, they fall for drugs and end up naked on the TV screen. The singer, despite realizing that, cannot resist the person she falls for in the end.
