The rare-Blade-opening jingle always felt to me like a lesser version of Where It All Began, what with the buildup into the mid-piece climax and the subsequent relaxation. I think said ending post-climax goes on for longer than it needs to, although this may have been necessary to accommodate all of the opening animations. It’s a little odd they included this in the main soundtrack when all of the other jingle-type tracks are only in the bonus CD of the extended OST, but I suppose they thought this was enough of a piece of music to go with the main tracks. It’s certainly exciting enough when it happens.
On that note, it’s always confused me when people say they don’t like the game because of the gacha system. It never forces the player to participate except to get some field skills, unless you’re going for 100% (in which case I definitely understand).
B-Bum
I think this might be the song that has gotten me the most hyped up of any song in Xenoblade 2. A lot of that is thanks to where it plays. The Rare Blade theme is gonna get you pumped no matter what, from concept alone but Awakened DNA does an especially good job of it. 0:01 is I think the biggest reason. The buildup to the main melody contains so much anticipation, yet at the same time it’s very mystical. The sense of mystery it creates is unparalleled. You immediately know what you just pulled is special from the music alone. The main fanfare at 0:09 is fittingly awe filled. It’s so grand and triumphant, yet also a powerful melody fitting for the power of a Rare Blade (not counting Finch and Godfrey). It gets you so excited for what you just pulled because now you feel why it’s so special. 0:24 then resolves satisfyingly and lets the piece hang, for you to marvel at the sight of what you just pulled. It goes through the motions fantastically for a cutscene track, and I don’t think there was a single time this played where I thought it didn’t fit the action on screen. That being said since it’s so hyper designed for the Rare Blade cutscenes, I don’t vibe with it outside of that context. It’s definitely unfair to Awakened DNA to expect it to be a song you can listen to outside of Rare Blade cutscenes, but it’s the reason it doesn’t stand out to me as much as an area or even most cutscene music would. Near perfect for what it tries to be though.
