Eleven Kidz Bop albums have been released to date. Each album features different pop music songs, played with music similar to the original, and with the "Kidz Bop Kids" singing instead of the original artist. Albums are typically released within a few months of each other and thus the songs included tend to be the hit songs of the current time, including such songs such as "Float On" (Modest Mouse), "This Love" (Maroon 5), and "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" (Green Day).
Although the albums are marketed as being "sanitized" versions of popular songs for children, many of the songs featured on the Kidz Bop albums still contain explicit sexual material, such as Rob Thomas's "Lonely No More," which some people consider inappropriate for younger audiences. Other featured songs, such as "Boulevard of Broken Dreams", contain profanity. Although the albums censor the actual word from the song, the context of the profanity remains. They also covered Green Day's hit "Wake Me Up When September Ends", which is about death.
The Kidz Bop video for their cover of Avril Lavigne's "Sk8r Boi", for instance, features the song being sung by a pre-teen girl in heavy make-up, fishnet stockings, and a Sex Pistols t-shirt.

Uh huh, uh huh, that's the way it is
'Cause life's like this
Uh huh, uh huh that's the way it is
Chill out, what you yellin' for?
Lay back, it's all been done before
And if you could only let it be
I like you the way you are
When we're drivin' in your car
And you're talking to me one on one
But you've become
Somebody else 'round everyone else
You're watching your back like you can't relax
You're tryin' to be cool
You look like a fool to me
Tell me
Why do you have to go and make things so complicated?
I see the way you're
Acting like you're somebody else, gets me frustrated
And life's like this you,
You fall and you crawl and you break and you take what you get and you turn it into
Honesty, you promised me I'm never gonna find you fake it
No, no, no
You come over unannounced
Dressed up like you're somethin' else
Where you are ain't where it's at you see, you're making me
Laugh out when you strike your pose
Take off all your preppy clothes
You know, you're not fooling anyone
When you've become
Somebody else 'round everyone else
You're watchin' your back like you can't relax
You're tryin' to be cool
You look like a fool to me
Tell me
Why do you have to go and make things so complicated?
I see the way you're
Acting like you're somebody else, gets me frustrated
And life's like this you,
You fall and you crawl and you break and you take what you get and you turn it into
Honesty, you promised me, I'm never gonna find you fake it
No, no, no
No, no, no (No)
No, no, no (No)
No, no, no (No)(No)
Chill out, what you yellin' for?
Lay back, it's all been done before
And if you could only let it be
You will see
Somebody else 'round everyone else
You're watching your back like you can't relax
You're trying to be cool,
You look like a fool to me
Tell me
Why do you have to go and make things so complicated?
I see the way you're
Acting like you're somebody else, gets me frustrated
And life's like this you,
You fall and you crawl and you break and you take what you get and you turn it into
Honesty, you promised me, I'm never gonna find you fake it
No, no
Why do you have to go and make things so complicated? (Yeah, yeah)
I see the way you're
Acting like you're somebody else, gets me frustrated
And life's like this you,
You fall and you crawl and you break and you take what you get and you turn it into
Honesty, you promised me I'm never gonna find you fake it
No, no, no
The lyrics to Kidz Bop's song "Complicated" convey a message about being true to oneself and not changing one's personality to fit in with the crowd. The opening lines suggest that life is what it is, and people should learn to accept that fact. The singer then addresses a friend or partner, asking them to chill out and stop trying to be someone they're not. The singer likes the person for who they are, but they've become somebody else around everyone else. This person is constantly watching their back and trying to be cool, but they come across as foolish to the singer.
The chorus of the song repeats the question, "Why do you have to go and make things so complicated?" This is directed at the person the singer is speaking to, who is making things difficult by pretending to be someone else. The singer is frustrated by this behavior and wants the person to be honest and true to themselves. The second verse continues the theme, with the singer describing the person as "dressed up like you're somethin' else." This person is not fooling anyone, and the singer finds it amusing when they strike a pose.
Overall, the song's message is about being who you are and not changing yourself to fit in with others. It encourages listeners to embrace their uniqueness and not feel pressure to conform to societal expectations.
