Eleven Kidz Bop albums have been released to date. Each album features different pop music songs, played with music similar to the original, and with the "Kidz Bop Kids" singing instead of the original artist. Albums are typically released within a few months of each other and thus the songs included tend to be the hit songs of the current time, including such songs such as "Float On" (Modest Mouse), "This Love" (Maroon 5), and "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" (Green Day).
Although the albums are marketed as being "sanitized" versions of popular songs for children, many of the songs featured on the Kidz Bop albums still contain explicit sexual material, such as Rob Thomas's "Lonely No More," which some people consider inappropriate for younger audiences. Other featured songs, such as "Boulevard of Broken Dreams", contain profanity. Although the albums censor the actual word from the song, the context of the profanity remains. They also covered Green Day's hit "Wake Me Up When September Ends", which is about death.
The Kidz Bop video for their cover of Avril Lavigne's "Sk8r Boi", for instance, features the song being sung by a pre-teen girl in heavy make-up, fishnet stockings, and a Sex Pistols t-shirt.
Soak Up the Sun

Holds meetings in his RV
I can't afford his gas
So I'm stuck here watching TV
I don't have digital
I don't have diddle squat
It's not having what you want
I'm gonna soak up the sun
I'm gonna tell everyone
To lighten up
I'm gonna tell 'em that
I've got no one to blame
For every time I feel lame
I'm looking up
I'm gonna soak up the sun
I'm gonna soak up the sun
I've got a crummy job
It don't pay near enough
To buy the things it takes
To win me some of your love
Every time I turn around
I'm Looking up, you're looking down
Maybe something's wrong with you
That makes you act the way you do
I'm gonna soak up the sun
I'm gonna tell everyone
To lighten up
I'm gonna tell 'em that
I've got no one to blame
For every time I feel lame
I'm looking up
I'm gonna soak up the sun
While it's still free
I'm gonna soak up the sun
Before it goes out on me
Don't have no master suite
But I'm still the king of me
You have a fancy ride, but baby
I'm the one who has the key
Every time I turn around
I'm looking up, you're looking down
Maybe something's wrong with you
That makes you act the way you do
Maybe I am crazy too
I'm gonna soak up the sun
I'm gonna tell everyone
To lighten up
I'm gonna tell 'em that
I've got no one to blame
For every time I feel lame
I'm looking up
I'm gonna soak up the sun
I'm gonna tell everyone
To lighten up
I'm gonna tell 'em that
I've got no one to blame
For every time I feel lame
I'm looking up
I'm gonna soak up the sun
Got my 45 on
So I can rock on
The lyrics to Kidz Bop's song "Soak Up the Sun" talk about the importance of appreciating what you already have in life and finding joy in simplicity. The song opens with the singer talking about their friend, who holds communist meetings in his RV, but they cannot afford the gas to attend. Instead, they find themselves stuck at home watching TV. The use of a communist RV is a symbol for the singer's friend's desire for equality, which they may not be able to find due to financial restrictions.
The second verse speaks to the singer's dissatisfaction with their life situation. They have a job that doesn't pay them enough to acquire the material possessions that they believe will make them happy. They also note that they are often looking up while others are looking down, which could represent feelings of inadequacy when looking at the accomplishments of others. Despite these dejected feelings, the singer decides to "soak up the sun" and find joy in the small things.
The lyrics repeat the phrase "I'm gonna soak up the sun" several times, emphasizing this idea of finding contentment in the present moment. The singer encourages others to "lighten up" and let go of their worries to find peace. They take on a positive outlook, recognizing that they alone are responsible for their own happiness.
Overall, "Soak Up the Sun" delivers a message that reflects the importance of appreciating the little things in life, finding joy in the present, and taking responsibility for one's own happiness despite what may be happening in the outside world.
