Hurricane
Killer Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Yeiyeah!

We're sickeningly pretty and unpleasantly vain
Something to really drive you insane
We're voluntarely obsessed with the play
So c'mon now, sing with the tempest & rock like a hurricane

I love to see you high 'cause of me
I drop you down to put you back on the peak
You're face to face with pride and you reap what you sow
Don't you see what you deny, don't you see what you deny?
So afraid to be alone

There's a winner in me and I'm breaking the ground
I am technology, I'll be sticking around
There's a winner in me, the sun in a cloud
There's a killer in me!

Yeiyeah!

Do the shadows bother you when you're all alone?
Does your mind play games with you or is it me after all?
No time for hesitation, are you ready to fall?
No time for useless patience, so how about some rock'n'roll?!
So afraid to be alone

Yeiyeah!

Overall Meaning

The song Hurricane by the band Killer's is a high energy, hard rock song with lyrics that touch upon themes of pride, vanity, and fear of being alone. The opening lines of the song set the tone for what's to come - the band is "sickeningly pretty and unpleasantly vain" and they know it. They are "voluntarily obsessed with the play" which could be interpreted as either their music or the lifestyle that comes with being in a rock band.

The chorus of the song is a call to action - "c'mon now, sing with the tempest & rock like a hurricane". It's clear that the band wants the listener to let go of their inhibitions and get caught up in the excitement of the music. The lyrics continue to explore the dynamic between the singer and the person they are singing to. The lines "I love to see you high 'cause of me, I drop you down to put you back on the peak" suggest that the singer enjoys having control over their listener's emotions. They want to see them at their highest point, but they also have the ability to bring them back down.

The second half of the song takes a darker turn, with lines like "there's a killer in me". The theme of fear of being alone is revisited with the repeated lines "so afraid to be alone". Overall, the song Hurricane is a fast-paced, high energy song with lyrics that touch upon themes of pride, vanity, and control, as well as fear of being alone.

There was no weather radar in 1938.
The barometers and observations were from ships and their locations.
The forecasters were lucky to gain much insight about
where it was heading or how strong it would be. Long Island, NY was utterly flattened.
The path of the storm went straight as an arrow
from south to north along the Conneticut River valley.

My familly lived in Keene, NH, where the eye passed through. The strength of the winds so far inland was amazing.
In Keene thousands of trees were felled by winds estimated at 90 MPH, 100 miles away from the coast, and there was massive flooding from four major streams,, the Asheulot River, the Branch, also called Otter Brook, Beaver Brook and White Brook, (a branch of which has been renamed Hurrican Brook, where my family owned land).
In the Keene city square, the spire of the United Church of Christ, my family's church, broke off and pierced the roof of the church like a spike into the main section of the church, nearly reaching the pews. It became an iconic photo of the damage, with a church in Dublin, NH, only twelve miles away also presenting such a phenomenon.
The valley of Keene also was heavily flooded by the unusually heavy rains in 1935.

Thank you for your advice and help, however it has not spoilt the video for me and I thank you for the upload, sad but interesting insight of the destructive power of natures power, sometimes I think that we forget that we are just residents of our beautiful planet and Mother Nature gives us a kick as if to say “stop taking me for granted and taking my bounty for greedy selfish ends”, but do we listen, no, and we carry on burning fossil fuels and making things we don’t actually need, fighting wars and destroying our home, and then we wonder why, it seems the message never gets learned.

Katharine Hepburn wrote about how terrible this was in her autobiography. She included pics of entire houses being ripped from their foundations and floating away. It’s a great book.

It truly is, and read that book. I donated it to a library, and loved the book!
