Since the band's inception, there have been over fifteen musicians in and out of King Diamond, with the only two mainstays being vocalist King Diamond and guitarist Andy LaRocque. In 1987 the band released their second studio release Abigail (their first concept album). Throughout the 1980s, King Diamond released a total of four studio albums. In the early 1990s, the band was put on hold when King Diamond reunited with his former outfit Mercyful Fate. After reforming King Diamond in 1994, Diamond would balance recording and touring with both Mercyful Fate and his eponymous band throughout the 90's. Since the early 2000s, King Diamond have kept recording and touring and, since 2014, the band has been composed of vocalist King Diamond, guitarist Andy LaRocque, guitarist Mike Wead, drummer Matt Thompson, and bassist Pontus Egberg.
A Broken Spell
King Diamond Lyrics

Down the stairs and out of the house
Once outside I felt My mind begin to
Fight a battle for control
With the tea pot broken I kind of
Realized
That "THEIR" power was less here,
I fell to my knees in haziness
And I looked in through the window
To the cellar
Things were moving down there,
"THEY" were searching for something
And "THEY" really found it,
The big axe was flying
Flying out through the cellar door
Up the stairs to the kitchen...
Then I passed out
The next thing I remember seeing was
The smoke coming from the chimney
I soon realized the smoke I saw was
Actually... Oh No!
All there was left of Missy and her
Dress, poor little girl
The spell was broken, I really felt the
Change
As my mind and body became one
Again
The moon was alive with its silvery
Eye
Staring right into My evil heart
I went back to see if My Grandma'
Was still there
Waiting for me in the attic
Oh I hate that bitch
The lyrics of "A Broken Spell" by King Diamond narrate the aftermath of a spell conducted by the singer's grandmother, who practices dark magic. As the song begins, we hear the singer leaving his grandmother's room confused and disoriented, having lost control over his mind. He realizes that the influence of the spell is less strong outside the house, and his mind starts to fight back. However, he witnesses his grandmother's minions searching for something in the cellar and eventually finding a big axe, which they proceed to use to chop up Missy, a little girl whose dress he sees burning outside the house. Witnessing the gruesome event causes the singer to pass out.
When he comes to, the spell has been broken. His consciousness has regained control over his mind and body, and he feels the change. However, the moon is staring at him, judging him for the evil he has allowed to happen. The song ends with the singer returning to the house to confront his grandmother, whom he hates.
The lyrics are haunting and evoke a sense of unease and dread, fitting for a song about dark magic and its consequences. The song's narrative arc resembles that of a horror story, with a buildup of tension leading to a gruesome climax followed by a sense of relief tempered with guilt and regret.

Después me desmayé
Lo siguiente que recuerdo ver era el humo viniendo de la chimenea
Pronto me di cuenta que el humo que vi realmente era... ¡Oh No!
Todo lo había quedado de Missy y su vestido, pobre niñita
El maleficio estaba roto, realmente sentí el cambio
Ya que que mi mente y mi cuerpo volvieron a ser uno
La luna estaba viva con su ojo plateado
Mirando fijamente a mi malvado corazón
Volví a mirar si Abuela aún estaba allí
Esperándome en el ático... Oh odio a esa zorra
