Since the band's inception, there have been over fifteen musicians in and out of King Diamond, with the only two mainstays being vocalist King Diamond and guitarist Andy LaRocque. In 1987 the band released their second studio release Abigail (their first concept album). Throughout the 1980s, King Diamond released a total of four studio albums. In the early 1990s, the band was put on hold when King Diamond reunited with his former outfit Mercyful Fate. After reforming King Diamond in 1994, Diamond would balance recording and touring with both Mercyful Fate and his eponymous band throughout the 90's. Since the early 2000s, King Diamond have kept recording and touring and, since 2014, the band has been composed of vocalist King Diamond, guitarist Andy LaRocque, guitarist Mike Wead, drummer Matt Thompson, and bassist Pontus Egberg.
Dreams
King Diamond Lyrics

I know that all my dreams are inside this room
Oh yeah, it's all in this tune
Dreams in the night, they're falling like rain
Dreams in the night, they drive me insane
They cannot wait until I turn off the light
Oh yeah, can't leave them behind
Dreams in the night, they're falling like rain
Dreams in the night, they drive me insane
Dreams in the night.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, give me another dream now
The Spider's lullaby is all they can sing
As they inject their poison into my brain
Oh yeah, they're calling my name
Dreams in the night, they're falling like rain
Dreams in the night, they drive me insane
Give me another dream now
Yeah, yeah, yeah, give me another dream now
Rainbows and waterfalls
Little girls are swimming in a pond of gold
I'm growing old
I'm growing old
Sweet blue eyes of innocence
Begging me
To follow them to the other side
Ah, they're growing horns
Dreams in the night, they're falling like rain
Dreams in the night, they drive me insane
Dreams in the night
Let me out of these dreams, dreams, dreams
Let me out of these dreams, dreams, dreams,
Let me out of these dreams, dreams, dreams
In "Dreams", King Diamond describes the overwhelming power of his dreams, which he believes contain everything he needs to know about himself. He feels that his dreams are his gateways to self-discovery, but they also have the ability to drive him insane. He describes the moment that he turns off the light and sees his dreams begin to materialize in his mind, like raindrops falling from the sky. The song also uses lyrics that are reminiscent of dark folklore. The spider's lullaby and the concept of dreams driving one insane are all elements found in horror stories and legends throughout the world.
The lyrics are open to interpretation, but it is clear that King Diamond is obsessed with his dreams. He doesn't want to leave them behind and begs for more, even though they are driving him crazy. He also uses a metaphor related to the delivery of poisonous venom by a spider, suggesting that his dreams have the same effect on him.
