Better Things
Knowledge Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Just because I'm not too old,
It doesn't make me dumb
Cause it seems I know much more than you
From my years under the gun
I've seen more than you might think
I've lived my forty fast
And if you think
You're better 'cause you're old
You can suck my ass
We've gotta stick together
If we're gonna win this fight
Lets start a fucking movement
All we need to do is unite
We've gotta stick together
If we're gonna win this fight
Let's start a fucking movement
All we need to do is unite
I don't bitch about how things work
We make things how they are
You just talk and do nothing
And show your battle scars
Sure I might be young
But I know that I'm not dumb
Please step back and just observe
To see what I've become
We've gotta stick together
If we're gonna win this fight
Lets start a fucking movement
All we need to do is unite
We've gotta stick together
If we're gonna win this fight
Let's start a fucking movement
All we need to do is unite
I've bled, and cried, and worked
For everything I have
So don't you tell me how to live
You're not my fucking dad
And I will always tell you
Exactly how I feel inside
The meek inherit nothing
And only the strong survive
So if you wander down hill
Or you think it's fine the way it is
You can stay in the dark
We'll move on to better things
So if you wander down hill
Or you think it's fine the way it is
You can stay in the dark
We'll move on to better things
We've gotta stick together
If we're gonna win this fight
Lets start a fucking movement
All we need to do is unite
We've gotta stick together
If we're gonna win this fight

Let's start a fucking movement
All we need to do is unite

Overall Meaning

In the lyrics of Knowledge's song "Better Things," the artist is expressing his frustration with people who underestimate him because of his age. He asserts that despite being younger than some, he has already experienced and learned a lot, having lived his life "under the gun." He challenges the idea that being old automatically means being superior, declaring bluntly that those who think this way can "suck my ass." Regardless of age, he believes that people need to unite and work together in order to "win this fight" and "move on to better things."

The artist seems to be advocating for a collective effort to improve the world and stands apart from those who only talk about change but do not actively pursue it. Having already "bled, and cried, and worked" hard for everything he has, he values action above empty talk. He closes the song with a nod to the survival of the fittest, saying that those who do not move forward will "stay in the dark" as others progress.

I would add:

there are 3 levels/dimensions of mind:

SurfaceMind ( dissolves each sleep/drunk/in-shock: temporary )
LifeMind ( active in dreaming, always running, 1 per life )
Soul/EternallyAbidingAwareness ( keeps getting caught in "lives" ).

Getting the next-deeper-level to learn anything, takes YEARS.

it is worth-it: nothing SurfaceMind earns can be "taken with one",
but meanings that successfully get into underlying LifeMind, can.

Keep earning the deeper-understandings,
the ones that one's unconscious needs 3 or 7 or 21 years to earn:
they are the only gold one can take with one.

All the trinkets of SurfaceMind are lost,
when LifeMind smashes from beneath it.

Earn your enduring heart-gold.

2. Nobody really cares about your dreams. That is why you do it for yourself.

Xin

Im your 1000th like :)

That depends on the dream. If your dream is to become an successful actor or pop singer, no one cares. If your dream is developing the next breakthrough device or app, and your on the roll, the Big Boys will certainly care. If your dream is creating a healthy, eco-friendly, sustainable society, protect forests, oceans, have clean air . . . you might "disappear".

aclock2

It depends on whether your dream would benefit others or only yourself.
