Though the aforementioned hit single earned much success, particularly in the U.K. where it spent many weeks on the charts and peaked at #5, it also left the group saddled with the 'one hit wonder' label outside of Canada & Brasil. Yet, from the same album, he returned to the Canadian charts with another original/cover combination, "Puss N' Boots/These Boots (Are Made For Walkin')". The track included resung interpolation snippets of Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song" and Nancy Sinatra's "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'". Another single, "Harry Houdini", failed to chart completely in America, but scored a Top 40 placing in Canada and also peaked at #14 in the New Zealand Singles Chart.
Wynne, who sang on 6 of 9 tracks from 'Move to Move', left shortly after its release at the end of 1989. Wynne did not pursue a solo career & currently owns a printing business since 2010. Harris released two more albums under the group's original name "Syntonic" & "VIDA!" taking on all lead vocals. He then went on to form the eurodance inspired group Outta Control together with musicians Kimberley Wetmore and Rachid. He also later became a celebrated remixer under the moniker Thunderpuss. Harris rerecorded and reissued "Barry Harris Presents Kon Kan - I Beg Your Pardon 2014" with new remixes. Harris took on sole administrator duties in the digital era on Kon Kan's Spotify page in 2016 and Apple Music/iTunes 2018. In 2020 he rereleased the Kon Kan L.P. VIDA! digitally world-wide with additional remixes never before available. In 2023 Harris continues on as Kon Kan releasing "Stars" July 2023 and "Sinful Wishes (Moonlight Mix) ft. Kimberley Wetmore August 2023.
Liberty!
Kon Kan Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You were one of a million people, I gave it to you my own liberty
Turnin' back these pages, now I clearly see
How you loved me whenever you wanted,
but more that that you loved to be free
There's a voice in my heart and it's callin' me back to you
But I can't go back, I must be free, break these chains in the name of
I gave it all to you my destiny,
Oh liberty, I wish that you would take it back from me
Liberty!
I never promised you a guarantee,
Oh liberty, you'll never know how much it means to me
As I read your letters, it's there in black and white
I know you never meant to hurt me and in my heart I know that you're right
And in this age of reason, I'll try to let it be
I know anything can happen when it comes to liberty
There's a voice...
One day you'll remember, when you're no longer free
When you're tied around somebody's finger
You'll think about what you said to me...
There's a voice...
The lyrics to Kon Kan's song Liberty! tell the story of a past lover who valued their freedom over the relationship and how the singer had to come to terms with that fact. The first verse highlights how the singer had given their lover their own liberty, but in return, their lover loved the idea of being free more than they loved the singer. The chorus speaks to the conflict within the singer, as they feel called back to their former lover but ultimately must break free in the name of liberty. The second verse shows the singer trying to move on and accept that their former lover never meant to hurt them, but ultimately, the singer knows that anything can happen when it comes to liberty. The final verse speaks to the possibility that one day the former lover will regret their choices and understand the singer's perspective.
