The song "Astronaut" by Kungfu depicts a summer night where the singer feels hopeless as he is surrounded by the same lifeless bodies he has seen for the past three hours. He decides to smoke another cigarette and go back home, feeling like it's okay to do so without any particular plan. The singer reflects on how insignificant that is, knowing that when he and the girl he's with first met, they both realized that although they may feel like they have a plan, it's all subject to change.
As the color comes back to the world, the two sit quietly on a balcony, feeling wild and confused. The city plays its first song quietly as the girl speaks about how life is not worth living in fear, and as the singer glances at her, he sees a thousand freckles and she finally kisses him. At this moment, an astronaut watching from above knows that his world is not lost because two stars have been born and a signal is shining into the night sky.
The song is about how in the grand scheme of things, life is fleeting and insignificant, but in the moment, the love and experiences that we have make all the difference. The astronaut symbolizes how even though we may feel alone, there are always people watching over us and that the love we share shines for the whole world to see.
