Where have you been?
Have you been to see him?
Did he take you in?
And love
What of all we've made?
Is it just a memory
Well the glitter's gone and the music's all been played
And I can't hold you now or make you mine
Can't make the band play one last time
For I haven't a place in your heart I'm afraid
The glitter's gone and the music's all been played
My love
Seems like yesterday
I touched your young face
And I heard you say
My love
We will ride the waves
And I'll be beside you
'Till your dying day
But the glitter's gone and the music's all been played
And I can't hold you now or make you mine
Can't make the band play one last time
For I haven't a place in your heart I'm afraid
The glitter's gone and the music's all been played
Where goes love
When it leaves a heart?
Does it move on somewhere?
Make another start?
Or just drift off
Without a trace
Like a frozen echo
Like a lost embrace?
Does it leave this world a cold and lonely place?
And I can't hold you now or make you mine
Can't make the band play one last time
For I haven't a place in your heart I'm afraid
The glitter's gone and the music's all been played
The lyrics to L.S.G.'s "Yesterday" evoke strong emotions of heartbreak and loss. The song opens with a series of questions that the singer asks of their former love interest. The lyrics ask whether the listener has gone to see someone else, and whether the love that they shared is now just a fleeting memory. The words "the glitter's gone and the music's all been played" indicate a sense of loss and the inescapable passing of time.
The second verse wistfully reminisces about the past, with the singer recalling a time when they were together, happy and in love. However, they acknowledge that this time has passed and that they can't "make the band play one last time." The lyrics suggest that the singer possibly lost the love of their life to another person and they are left alone, struggling to come to grips with their loss. The final verse poses an existential question about where love goes once it leaves a person's heart. The lyrics lament the cold and lonely world that is left behind when love leaves.
Overall, "Yesterday" is a deeply emotional song that reflects on the fleeting nature of love and the pain of not being able to hold on to it.
