Caminante Nocturno

The lyrics to La Santa Cecilia's song "Caminante Nocturno" speak to the experience of being with someone who constantly travels or moves, leaving a trail of longing and heartache behind. The singer addresses this "caminante nocturno," the night traveler, who comes and goes without ever staying for long. The anticipation of their return feels longer than the actual time they spend together.
The verses depict a bustling city that never sleeps, with lights illuminating the streets even in the darkness of the night. The singer confesses that they cannot rest when this person is constantly on the move. They plead for a moment of connection before the sunrise, desiring to bask in the moonlight and share intimate moments together. The repeated line "Deja de sembrar cicatrices, porque no echan raíces antes que salga el sol" translates to "Stop sowing scars, because they don't take root before the sunrise," suggesting that the transient nature of this relationship prevents any lasting emotional connection from forming.
The chorus acknowledges that this "caminante nocturno" wakes early, feeling rushed and resistant to love. The singer expresses how this person's constant departures burden them with the reminder that life seems to be taken away each time they leave. The plea for the moon to shine upon them and for the chance to touch and be close before the dawn reflects the yearning for a deeper connection that seems perpetually out of reach.
