La Santa Cecilia’s self-titled EP was recorded at Lo-Fi Studios in San Bernardino and the legendary Westlake Recording Studios in Hollywood. Their song “Chicle” was featured on the Emmy award-winning series Weeds, the independent feature Dish, and the documentary Re-Encounters about Oaxacan artist Alejandro Santiago. Their musician also be heard on KPFK's radio programs '4 O'clock Tuesday' with Gustavo Arellano and ' Travel Tips For Aztlan' with Mark Torres. The band made an on-camera appearance on HBO's Emmy award-winning hit show Entourage; the episode also featured the songs "Chicle" and "El Farol". The band also held a two- week residence for the L.A. Philharmonic- sponsored children's show Summer Sounds, where they performed their songs and acted so as to educate the community of Los Angeles on their very own cultural treasures.

Hierba Mala
La Santa Cecilia Lyrics

No valen ni un peso tus palabras que se van
Como hojas en el viento
Tú sembraste dudas
Todos mis intentos
Solo me engañaste
Me vendiste un cuento
(I bet you cannot look me in the eye)
Hierba mala nunca muere
En las flores se detiene
Las viste de espinas, las mata de sed
Hasta que se secan contra la pared
Te tiro al olvido, no quiero volver a cruzarme contigo
Mejor sola caminar
Que mal acompañada
Ya no quiero tropezar
Andando de tu mano
Tú sembraste dudas
Todos mis intentos
Solo me engañaste
Me vendiste un cuento
No quiero escucharte ya
(We'll never go together, you and I)
Hierba mala nunca muere
En las flores se detiene
Las viste de espinas, las mata de sed
Hasta que se secan contra la pared
Te tiro al olvido, no quiero volver a cruzarme contigo
Espero la vida en su recorrido
Te enseñe a no ser tan cruel como has sido
Prefiero tu olvido, no quiero volver a cruzarme contigo
The lyrics of La Santa Cecilia's song "Hierba Mala" convey a message of empowerment and self-liberation after experiencing betrayal and deceit in a romantic relationship. The singer of the song refuses to listen to the person who caused them pain, recognizing that their words hold no value and simply vanish like leaves in the wind. The chorus, stating "hierba mala nunca muere" (bad weed never dies), implies that despite the attempts to harm or hinder the singer, they will continue to thrive and overcome the obstacles placed in their path.
The metaphor of "hierba mala" (bad weed) represents the negative influence that the person had in the singer's life. They compare themselves to a resilient weed that, despite being surrounded by flowers, manages to survive and even grow thorns to defend itself. The line "te tiro al olvido, no quiero volver a cruzarme contigo" (I throw you into oblivion, I don't want to cross paths with you again) conveys a sense of liberation and determination to move on from the toxic relationship.
