Labradford consists of bassist Robert Donne, guitarist/vocalist Mark Nelson, and Carter Brown on keyboards. Their music style is ambient post-rock, although their earlier releases such as "Prazision" and "A Stable Reference" were much more related to drone rock.
In 1993 they released their debut album on Kranky which has remained their home since. The group's music mostly drifts on the guitar effects and the keyboard passages, with the vocals, when present, in the background.
In 1999 they started a tour with Godspeed You! Black Emperor and their Festival of Drifting series, which featured appearances from Pole, Matmos, Papa M and Sigur Rós.
Though the group has not officially disbanded, they have not released another album since 2001's critically acclaimed Fixed::Context, and the band members have apparently moved away from their former base of Richmond, Virginia. Robert Donne has joined the slowcore group Spokane. Mark Nelson continues to release records on Kranky under the name Pan•American.

Labradford Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
We see through your plans in the mouth of the highway too.
Around decision waits for? Next command.
Hey? Buried secret candles?
Is it deep enough
Would you dig deeper now
Is it deeper now?? Deepen it now.
The opening line "Too many cans those?" can be interpreted as a questioning of excessive consumption or accumulation of material possessions. It suggests that the singer is observing a situation where there is an overwhelming amount of something, possibly referring to cans as a metaphor for excessive waste or meaningless objects. This line sets the tone for a critical perspective on society and its tendencies towards excess.
"We see through your plans in the mouth of the highway too" implies that the singer can discern the true intentions or motives of others. The mention of the highway suggests a metaphorical journey, where people's plans and actions are transparent and easily understood. This line may symbolize a sense of disillusionment with the superficiality and lack of authenticity prevalent in society.
The line "Around decision waits for? Next command" suggests a passive approach to decision-making or a reliance on external guidance. It implies that decisions are not actively made, but rather a result of waiting for someone else to give instructions or directives. This line could be seen as a critique of individuals who lack agency or the ability to take charge of their own lives.
The section "Hey? Buried secret candles? Is it deep enough? Would you dig deeper now? Is it deeper now?? Deepen it now." can be interpreted as an invitation to explore hidden or buried aspects of oneself or a situation. The mention of "buried secret candles" implies that there are hidden truths or emotions that are waiting to be discovered and acknowledged. The repetition of the question "Is it deep enough?" suggests a desire to delve further into these hidden depths and gain a deeper understanding. The urgency conveyed in the last line, "Deepen it now," encourages the listener to actively engage in self-reflection and introspection. Overall, these lyrics seem to encourage a critical examination of society's tendencies towards excess, superficiality, and a lack of agency, while also urging individuals to delve deeper into their own emotions and experiences to uncover hidden truths.

Too many candles in the seance. We'll see right through your plans. In the mouth of the highway tunnel, the decision waits for your next command.
Even buried secret candles still can burn. Is it deep enough? Did you bury it deep enough?
