Lana Del Rey Lyrics

I can be your 4th of July
I can be your 4th of July
I can be your 4th of July
I can be your 4th of July
I can be your 4th of July
I can be your 4th of July

Gimme that, gimme that, gimme that crystal
Gimme that, gimme that, gimme that crystal
Gimme that, gimme that, gimme
That crystal meth, love
Because

Feels like sugar in me
Feels like sugar in me
Feels like sugar in me

Feels like sugar in me
Feels like sugar in me

Overall Meaning

In Lana Del Rey's song "4th of July," the recurring chorus line "I can be your 4th of July" represents the singer's desire to be the ultimate symbol of celebration and independence in a romantic relationship. The 4th of July is a national holiday in the United States commemorating the country's independence, often associated with fireworks, barbecues, and festivities. By offering to be someone's 4th of July, Lana Del Rey is promising to bring excitement, passion, and intensity to the relationship, just like the explosive and vibrant celebrations of the holiday.

The repeated plea for crystal meth in the verses can be interpreted in a metaphorical sense. Del Rey often uses drug references in her music to symbolize a desire for escape, euphoria, or intensity. In this case, the crystal meth represents a craving for an intense and addictive love. The lyrics suggest that the singer wants to experience a love that feels like an intoxicating substance, something that is sweet and addictive, but also potentially dangerous and destructive.

The repetition of the line "Feels like sugar in me" reinforces this metaphorical interpretation. Sugar can be associated with sweetness and pleasure, so it represents the addictive nature of the desired love. Del Rey is expressing her longing for a love that consumes her, gives her a rush of euphoria, and leaves her craving for more.

Overall, "4th of July" is a song about desire, intensity, and the search for a love that provides a sense of celebration and liberation.

I desperately need the HQ version of this. I know this is dark, but for whatever reason the “feels like sugar in me” part immediately transported me back to when I was addicted heroin, before it stopped working.

@edwarth42

this is a concept demo

@Luke-cb8ub

@@edwarth42 ahh damn, I half figured that. I wish she included the “feels like sugar in me” in a whole new song rather than just as an additional part to “put me in a movie” :(

@alexanderk.6869

@Luke if you're still looking; it's not exactly HQ but there's a put me in a movie demo ("demo 3" or "little girls demo", you can find it here on youtube) that includes the "feels like sugar in me" part. The line is only repeated twice but it's slightly higher quality
