We're all made in the image of God, thus we have a conscience (knowing right from wrong) and because of that we shall be judged (held accountable) by God. It is appointed unto men once to die and after that the judgement.

Because everything will perish, but the human soul shall live forever, either in Heaven with Jesus or in the Lake of Fire with Satan and his demons and the rest of unrepented God hating souls.
