A native of Danville, Kentucky[1], Harris started playing the piano by age 9. His first formal vocal training came when he attended college at Western Kentucky University, from which he graduated in 1969. He later became a part of the popular Gospel touring group "The Spurlows." He gained fame with both his solo work, and his work as part of the Gaither Vocal Band, headed by Gospel musician and recording executive Bill Gaither.
His many live and televised appearances include Live with Regis and Kathie Lee, The 700 Club, several Billy Graham crusades, the Trinity Broadcasting Network, numerous Gaither Homecoming shows, and his own Christmas special. In his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, Harris has made many appearances on the WHAS Crusade for Children, a long-running local telethon benefitting children's charities.
Of his many chart-topping songs, perhaps his best-known are his duets with Sandi Patty called, "More than Wonderful" and "I've Just Seen Jesus." His song, "Mighty Spirit" was featured in a 1993 television campaign for the Points of Light Foundation, headed by President George H. W. Bush; he performed the song for Bush and his wife Barbara at the White House.
Harris has received an honorary doctorate of music from Campbellsville University in central Kentucky. He was inducted into the Western Kentucky University Hall of Distinguished Alumni in 1993.
Harris, his wife Cynthia, and children Lonnie and Teresa have lived in Louisville for more than three decades. Despite his schedule, Harris serves as a deacon in his home church, and previously served as its treasurer. Harris is well-known within the Gospel music industry for his reluctance to schedule performances that take him away from his family for any length of time.

Let It Snow Let It Snow/Sleigh Ride
Larnelle Harris Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But the fire is so delightful
And since we've no place to go
Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!
It doesn't show signs of stopping
And I've bought some corn for popping
The lights are turned way down low
When we finally kiss goodnight
How I'll hate going out in the storm!
But if you'll really hold me tight
All the way home I'll be warm
The fire is slowly dying
And, my dear, we're still goodbying
But as long as you love me so
Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!
The lyrics of Larnelle Harris's Let it Snow Let it Snow/Sleigh Ride is centered around a couple who are cozying up indoors on a cold winter night while it is snowing heavily outside. They have nowhere to go and decide to embrace the snow and enjoy the warmth of the fire indoors. The first line "Oh the weather outside is frightful" sets the tone of the song as the singer describes the cold and unpleasant weather outside. However, the fire inside is delightful and hence they choose to stay in and enjoy each other's company.
The second verse describes the snowfall that shows no signs of stopping, and how the lights are turned down low, creating a cozy and intimate atmosphere. The chorus "Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!" emphasizes the joy of staying in and enjoying the moment without any rush. The third verse paints a picture of the couple finally kissing goodnight and the difficulty of having to leave the warmth of the fire and going out in the storm. However, if the partner holds the singer tight, they will remain warm and safe all the way home.
The fourth and final verse talks about the dying fire and how the couple is bidding goodbye, but their love will keep them warm even after they leave the cozy atmosphere. Overall, the song is a celebration of love and warmth on a snowy night.
