Larnelle Harris Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Brought up in the church against your will
Forced to sit through sermons and be still
Making trouble for the Sunday School teacher
Running through the pews
Just a child then
You were wide-eyed and confused
Screaming on the bus with all the youth
More concerned with dating than with truth
Too cool to join the choir, too smart to go to school
Church was boring
And the scriptures, just more rules

[Chorus:]
But all through the years
Your eyes and ears
Saw just enough of Christ among the people here
To know that you could trust
To know that you were loved
Until there came the day
Your heart could finally say (pray)
I want to go where You are going, Lord
I want to be among Your people where You are
I cannot live my life alone
I don't know how
But You would not bring me this far to leave me now

Finally off to college for the fall
Fifty different lifestyles down one hall
Your professors question everything
Your roommates test your faith
And easy answers seem so out of place

Running from the chapel with your spouse
And making monthly payments on the house
You were living for your children
And they up and moved away
Your friends seem older
And worry fills your days

(Repeat Chorus)
You would not bring me this far to leave me now...

Overall Meaning

The song "I Want To Go" by Larnelle Harris tells the story of a person's spiritual journey. The song begins with the person being brought up in the church against their will, finding it boring and the scriptures merely more rules. The person was more concerned with dating, too cool to join the choir, and too smart to go to school. However, as the years went by, the person saw just enough of Christ among the people in the church to know that they could trust and be loved. Eventually, the person's heart could finally say that they want to go where the Lord is going, to be among His people, and cannot live life alone.

As the person's journey continues, they go off to college and face different lifestyles and tough questions from their professors, with their faith being tested by their roommates. And as time passes, the person falls in love, has children, and grows old with worry filling their days. However, they still remember the love and trust they found in Christ and that He would never leave or abandon them.

The song is a reminder that no matter the hardships or difficulties that one may face on their spiritual journey, Christ is always present, and His love is unwavering. The message is uplifting, inspiring one to seek out and hold onto the love and trust they find in Christ.

Just a word of encouragement:
Remember that Jesus loves you and He's coming soon.

If you have not made a decision to follow Him, don't wait because tomorrow is
promised to no one.
Satan wants us to believe we have all the time in the world, when we actually don't.
Even he knows his time is short (Revelation 12:12)

Lastly, the National Sunday Law is about to be enforced upon us. It involves the Mark of the Beast. The Beast is a religious & political system, which includes the Pope and his followers. Their sign of authority or seal is Sunday worship because they claim to have authority over the Bible and they admit that Sunday worship is their doing. (Revelation 13:6). They will enforce worship on all. (See Revelation 13). IT is their plan to force all to worship on the 1st day of the week (Sunday) and have that as the ONLY DAY of worship. They want everyone to forsake God's law which includes keeping the Sabbath, and accept man's tradition.
When it is enforced, and people accept Sunday worship INSTEAD of accepting the Seventh Day Sabbath (Saturday) as the Lord's Day and only true day of worship, they will get the mark of the Beast.
The system promotes false worship.

So, it's our duty to keep God's commandments, including the 4th which talks about the Sabbath because in the end, we have to chose 1 side.

So, lastly, I'm inviting you to the Seventh Day Adventist church that is NEAREST to you and make it your #1 priority be ready by God's grace to face the time that is just before us.

Abraham and Sarah never thought they’d have a Son
Then descendants came as countless as the stars
Moses and God’s people had nowhere left to run
Then the waters of the Red Sea stood apart
So many times the light of hope
Was setting like the sun
And it seemed to the faithful
It was over, it was done

CHORUS
But God sees a way
When miracles are well beyond our view
His love saves the day
When fear would tell us there is just no use
You can look the whole world over
For the meaning of it all
For the purpose that mankind has always sought
In the end You’ll discover
There is no other answer
But God

I know Your heart is breaking
The pain just comes in waves
Everywhere You look it seems like there’s no peace
You try not to give up
But the tears will not relent
Any minute now You might accept defeat
And You stand there with impossible
The next word on Your lips
Your vision has been blinded
And nothing’s making sense

I lucked up on this song two years ago when I was in the midst of a long and painful recovery from back surgery.

When he go to the part where " the pain just comes in waves" that sounded like me. How could he have known? Of course, he didn't
BUT GOD did.

This is my favorite song during hard times. I think we all are enduring some sort of pain right now, whether physical, emotional financial or spiritual.

You do what you can do, but ultimately God is and He has, the answer.

This song has been a blessing to me, and I have shared it with others who need encouragement.

God bless us all.

@Gary Lewis oh Gary., Larnell is definately not under-rated in the gospel, religious . Classic music category. Many awards, albums. ......it's just that he is under- listened to by non Christians .they never have heard of him. Only God loving people who listen to gospel music have heard of him. He is highly rated with God's chosen. 🕊🙏🕊
