Everybody Loves Somebody
Lawrence Welk Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The tears I cried for you could fill an ocean,
But you don't care how many tears I cry
And though you only lead me on and hurt me,
I couldn't bring myself to say goodbye

Cause everybody's somebody's fool
Everybody's somebody's plaything
And there are no exceptions to the rule
Yes, everybody's somebody's fool

I told myself it's best that I forget you,
Though I'm a fool, at least I know the score
Yet darlin', I'd be twice as blue without you
It hurts, but I'd come running back for more

Cause everybody's somebody's fool
Everybody's somebody's plaything
And there are no exceptions to the rule
Yes, everybody's somebody's fool

Someday you'll find someone you really care for
And if her love should prove to be untrue,
You'll know how much this heart of my is breakin'
You'll cry for her the way I cried for you

Yes, everybody's somebody's fool
Everybody's somebody's plaything

And there are no exceptions to the rule
Yes, everybody's somebody's fool

Overall Meaning

In the song "Everybody's Somebody's Fool" by Lawrence Welk, the lyrics express the singer's feelings of heartbreak and being in a one-sided love. The opening lines, "The tears I cried for you could fill an ocean, but you don't care how many tears I cry," show the depth of the singer's sadness but also their realization that the person they love does not care about their feelings. The chorus, "Cause everybody's somebody's fool, everybody's somebody's plaything, and there are no exceptions to the rule," highlights the universal nature of heartbreak and how everyone experiences it at some point in their lives. The singer acknowledges their own foolishness for continuing to love someone who has hurt them but expresses that they cannot help it because they still love them.

The second verse shows the singer attempting to move on and forget about the person who has hurt them, but ultimately acknowledging that they would still come running back to them. This highlights the difficulty of letting go of someone who has hurt us and how emotional attachment can be stronger than logic. The final verse shows the universality of heartbreak, with the singer expressing that someday the person who hurt them will experience the same heartbreak and understand their pain.

Love this video, the young woman dancing is a friend of a friend..Janice....never heard Wally play so fast....

BuffaloPolkaDrummer

from what I understand, Wally re-arranged this song and Johnny's Knocking on the other appearnce specificly for Lawrence's band. It was easier for the band to play at this tempo because they were use to it espically with all the Eastern Style arrangements that were played when featuring Myron Floren....
