Beach Town
Le Loup Lyrics

Lost in the static of the sand
We're kids again
Following a call to the hilltops
Folded all around ship's bones
Fettered to the beach in the foam
Old ships bones
Fettered to the beach in the foam
Broken town
The shutters on the shed are falling down
In a gun-grey gown
The weather tore the dunes down
Found unfolded all around dead homes
Rooftops low and cold
Old dead homes
Rooftops low and cold
In your yards, and in your hearts
You'll cordon off the sweetest part
But it wont grow
Lost in the static and the snow
It wont grow
Lost in the static and the snow
Le Loup's "Beach Town" is a song that speaks to the nostalgia many feel towards their childhood but with a darker undertone. The first verse refers to being lost in the "static of the sand" meaning the white noise that accompanies the crashing of waves. This line can be interpreted as getting lost in a moment or memory, possibly sparked by being back in a familiar environment. The following line, "we're kids again" further supports the idea of being transported back in time. However, the mention of a "call to the hilltops" hints at an awareness of the passage of time and how different things may look when viewed from a higher vantage point. The final line, "old ships bones fettered to the beach in the foam" speaks to how time has taken its toll on the surroundings and gives the sense that everything may not be as connected or whole as it once was.
The second verse describes a town that has seen better days. The use of "gun-grey gown" to describe the weather further emphasizes the bleakness of the scene being described. The line "found unfolded all around dead homes" creates an eerie feeling, as if the houses are no longer occupied but are still there, continuing to deteriorate. The final two lines of the verse, "rooftops low and cold, old dead homes" once again speak to the decaying state of the town.
