Fronted by lead singer and lyricist Renato Russo, Legião Urbana was founded in 1983 and existed until 1996, when Renato passed away due to complications caused by AIDS. Besides being the lead vocalist, Renato was an occasional guitar, bass and keyboards player. He also wrote most of the band's songs. In 13 years of career, they released 8 studio albums - the last being posthumous - and one live.
Legião Urbana is probably the most famous Brazilian rock bands, especially known for Renato's poetic lyrics, which range from love and spiritualism to politics, family, sex and drugs.
Nowadays, Dado Villa-Lobos (ex-guitar player of Legião Urbana) has a solo career and recorded his first album, named "Jardim De Cactus", in 2005. Drum player Marcelo Bonfá also tried a solo career.

Ficou na minha boca por mais tempo
De amargo, então salgado ficou doce
Assim que o teu cheiro forte e lento
Fez casa nos meus braços e ainda leve
Forte, cego e tenso, fez saber
Que ainda era muito e muito pouco
E desafio o instinto dissonante
In the first verse of "Daniel na Cova dos Leões" by Legião Urbana, the singer reflects on the memory of a past lover, stating that the bitter taste of their body lingered in their mouth for a long time. However, this bitterness eventually turned into a sweet taste after the memory of the lover's strong, slow scent came to mind. The singer then describes the intense sensations that still arise when they hold onto the memory of this lover, stating that it is both too much and too little.
In the second verse, the singer speaks directly to the lover, sharing with them their most sincere secret and braving the dissonant instincts that arise within them. The insecurity that once plagued the singer no longer affects them, as the lover's moment becomes their own. The lover's fear of fear does not create confusion within the singer, as they find strength in the lover's body and sail through its uncharted waters. However, the singer also acknowledges the inevitability of making mistakes, using the metaphor of a boat with a motor still trying to use its paddles. Similarly, drowning in the waters of the lover's body without a lifeguard present represents the danger of succumbing to one's own emotions without proper support.
