The Next Dimension
Lemon Demon Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Before stairs were invented, before ladders were invented, before express elevators were invented, and before two-story buildings were invented, people stuck to the ground and the world we lived in was more or less flat, more or less two-dimensional. But somewhere along the line, someone with too much money and time, well, they just said, "Hey, I'm gonna build another house on top of my house." And humanity said, "That's an interesting concept. I think we should go with it." And I said…

See you in the next dimension.
It's beyond our comprehension.
Life is lovely, not to mention
Extra lively.
Pyramid says, "In God we trust,"
Maybe that's a lie
So he can get away from us.

Humanity just gave me a funny look. Humanity tried to turn away from me, but apparently I'm a part of it. So here I am, all grown up and perfectly used to the thought of tall, tall buildings, which stack people vertically. I've even been in airplanes which allow you to enjoy the one thousandeth floor without needing any lesser floors to hold it up. Pretty soon we'll live in outer space and there won't even be an up or down anymore. I think once we're there, we'll invent something even better than up or down. Referring to what I said before…

See you in the next dimension.
It's beyond our comprehension.
Life is lovely, not to mention
Extra lively.
Pyramid says "In God we trust,"
Maybe that's a lie
So he can get away from us.

Bearing in mind that the numbers we find
To label dimensions, are vertically lined,
And if we find time to leave numbers behind,
We'll get close encounters of the god-knows-what kind.

See you in the next dimension.
It's beyond our comprehension.
Life is lovely, not to mention
Extra lively.
Pyramid says "In God we trust,"
Maybe that's a lie
So he can get away from us.

P.S. Never mind everything I just said.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Lemon Demon's song "The Next Dimension" contemplate the idea of human civilization surpassing the limitations of a two-dimensional world by building taller and taller buildings that could allow people to live on top of each other, who in turn eventually need an airplane to reach their apartment. The song reflects on how the concept of "up" and "down" could cease to exist when humans eventually live in outer space. The lyrics also question the legitimacy of faith, suggesting that the phrase "In God, we trust" could simply be a means for God, represented by a pyramid in the song, to escape humanity. The song ends with a sudden change of tone as the singer says to disregard everything they just said.

This song is an amusing commentary on the seemingly infinite progression of human civilization and the ever-evolving nature of technology. It also points out the absurdity of our beliefs and the human tendency to rely on something beyond our comprehension. With the lyrics' reference to dimensional numbers, the song can be interpreted as a playful celebration of science fiction and the eternal human desire to explore the unknown.

@Daikon_Micucci

Doesn't really help that some lyrics get muffled, and it gets a little easy to lose track of what line you're on.

@NoOffenseAnimation

is this where the 'im so glad neil invented ___' meme came from?
also 'sharks exist irl'

@SaulCheeseMan

The sharks one comes from the song Jaws when he says Sharks exist in real life!@@NoOffenseAnimation

@NoOffenseAnimation

@@SaulCheeseMan yeah I know the reference in the song lol
I just meant was that where the meme originated from

@SaulCheeseMan

@@NoOffenseAnimation I don't know if it would be or not because this song is a little less known

@ClFUR

i like how this implies that Neil has been alive for thousands of years

@alfredjonathankwak955

You aren't wrong, he is a god after all

@IsraelRuizGodot

That would also imply he has/had money at one point. Which I find highly unlikely. He has and will always have financial problems.

@IsraelRuizGodot

@Rukoshii I see you are man of culture and are well versed in the ways of Neil. You have earned my respect. You have discord?
