On January 26, 1986, French humorist Coluche, who had set up Les Restos du Cœur a few months earlier, invited a number of artists and public figures to appear on television as a promotional move. The band, whose line-up was never the same, was dubbed "Les Enfoirés" in reference to one of Coluche's catchwords. After Coluche died in a motorbike accident (June 19, 1986) his widow, Véronique Colucci, called on those who had participated to continue his actions, and the band was revived for a further television show. The concept has since evolved into an annual concert, bringing together up to forty artists and celebrities from various backgrounds. The funds raised by the concerts and derived records under the name "Enfoirés" are donated to Les Restos du Cœur.
One of the key features of Les Enfoirés is "La Chanson des Enfoirés", a song which became a sort of hymn to the charity, written by Jean-Jacques Goldman, a long-time supporter of the organisation.

M'a alité
Oui, je rêvais de notre monde
Et la Terre est bien ronde
Et la lune est si blonde
Ce soir dansent les ombres du monde
À la rêver immobile
Elle m'a trouvé bien futile
Mais quand bouger l'a faite tourner
Ma réalité m'a pardonné
M'a pardonné
M'a pardonné, ouh!
Dansent les ombres du monde
Dansent les ombres du monde
Dansent les ombres du monde
Dansent les ombres du monde
Allez! Allez!
Dansent, dansent, dansent, dansent
Dansent, dansent, dansent, dansent
Dansent, dansent, dansent, dansent
Dansent, dansent, dansent, dansent
The lyrics of Les Enfoirés's song "Un Autre Monde" express the desire for a different world, a world where the Earth is round, the moon is fair-haired, and life is abundant. The singer dreams of a reality where everything is different, where he can escape the mundane and ordinary. The line "Je dormais à poings fermés" suggests that he was living in ignorance, not seeing the truth, but instead dreaming of a different reality.
The second verse continues the theme of longing for a different Earth, a mysterious and less grounded world. The desire to "tout foutre en l'air" (to mess everything up) indicates frustration with the current state of affairs. The repetition of "Je marchais les yeux fermés" emphasizes the idea of walking blindly, not being able to see one's own feet, and dreaming of an alternate reality. The line "Ma réalité, oui, M'a alité" suggests that his current reality is confining and limiting, leading him to dream of a different world.
However, the chorus brings a change in perspective. The realization comes that the Earth is indeed round, and the moon is beautiful just the way it is. The dancing shadows of the world symbolize the complexities and uncertainties of life. The singer acknowledges that his dream of an alternative world was impractical and insignificant. Moving forward, he embraces the reality he once rejected. The repetition of "Dansent les ombres du monde" asserts that the shadows continue to dance, highlighting the ever-changing nature of the world.
Overall, "Un Autre Monde" captures the longing for escape and a different reality, only to find acceptance and appreciation for the world as it is.
