He first rose to mainstream prominence on 8 November, 2018, with the release of his second EP Breach, including the massive hit single "Someone You Loved".

2019 saw "Someone You Loved" charting in over 29 counties and becoming a global hit.

On 17 May, 2019, Capaldi released his debut album titled Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent, including his top 10 singles "Grace", "Someone You Loved", "Hold Me While You Wait", amongst several other songs featured in Capaldi's previous EP's.

The debut album peaked at number one in the UK and Ireland, whilst becoming the fastest-selling album of the year, and becoming certified gold in the UK just a week after its release.

In March 2021 Capaldi announced that he postponed all his upcoming shows to work on his upcoming sophomore album. He returned in the summer of 2022 to play his postponed shows, including his headlining slots at the TRNSMT Festival, the Latitude Festival, and the Isle of Wight Festival.

The lead single "Forget Me" from his second album, Broken by Desire to Be Heavenly Sent, was released in September 2022 and it became his first song to debut at the top of the UK Singles Chart. His frozen pizza range Big Sexy Pizza was also released later that month in the UK supermarkets Iceland and Tesco. He achieved his fourth number-one single when "Pointless" climbed to the top of the UK charts in January 2023. In April 2023, his documentary How I'm Feeling Now was released on Netflix.

In April 2023, Capaldi achieved his fifth number-one song on the UK Singles Chart with "Wish You the Best".

On 19 May 2023, Capaldi released his sophomore studio album, Broken by Desire to Be Heavenly Sent.

I shared this song with my dad before he died almost 5 years ago. He was crying at the lyrics, he was so moved by certain lines. He said it was one of the most beautiful and sorrowful songs he had heard in 30 years.

He died within 2 weeks. The last song that touched him.

I miss him.

(Thank you the responses.) He was having a heart procedure the next day, already had filled out his PoA and will. He called friends crying the night before he died, he never called me or my sisters. I think he knew he was going to die and he couldn't tell us.

I wish he would have. I have so many regrets. I'd give the world to hear him again. Feel the safety of having him hug me.

I had a similar experience with a new friend in college. We met in one of my classes and immediately started talking about everything. He was a budding young filmmaker and had just earned it apprenticeship what's Spike Lee! The last song we talked about was Jeremy by Pearl Jam. This song has gripped me and given me such bliss. I've planned my suicide twice, once in 2007 and then again in 2018. I nearly went through with each plan until something would interrupt that attempt, and I found myself losing each day, instead of living. And for the first year in twelve years, I'm in a healthy mental and emotional space. I had to start all over again, and this song reminds me of that day, 28th October 2019, when I decided to make the change. Thank you Michael. These times are tough but they are not forever. I don't know if the actual artist Michael Kiwanuka will ever read this...I hope so. This song, this video, they've been weighing on me lately. I'm a father of 11 year old twin boys, I've struggled with addiction to hard drugs and somehow beat it before I had kids. My recent huge struggle has been with tobacco. I've been smoking since I was like 16. I'm 38 now. I quit cigarettes right before Covid, just a coincidence, but I still crave tobacco when I drink, so I started smoking cigars. Y'know, the 99 cents for a pack of two White Owls. The thing is, I inhale them way more than I should. Ever since this song and video got stuck in my head, I've started having this paranoid idea that I probably have lung cancer. For the past couple months I'd wake up early early in the morning with this song in my head, a pain in my chest and a fear in my heart. A fear that one day I'll suddenly not be here for my boys. If you ever happen to read this, I want you to know that it's this song you wrote, and also this video with it, that led me to put that shit down for good. I haven't smoked for about two weeks now, except for the green. I don't think I'll ever quit that, but that's only a two-toke bedtime thing. So, thank you, man. Thank you for making this. Thank everyone involved. I don't know how one song that got stuck in my head every morning for like 2 months changed my life, but I guess that's just how it works sometimes. Everything has its place and time, and somehow you just happened to put me on my way to the next thing I want to quit. Next stop is the beer. One step at a time, man.

Nostalgia is always sad.. you either think of sth bad that happened in the past and you're sad or you rhink of sth great that happened in the oast but you're sad cause you can't live that same scenario and can't get the same feelings running through your body.

Can't believe I didn't found out about this song until today. Maybe 5 years too late, but I would say better late than never. I was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2020, today pain is a little rough, day was kind of gloomy. Then this song just stumble upon me, now I find myself dancing on my 2 feets, wiggling around like I actually could dance, but I know for sure though, my heart is dancing.
