A stunning vocalist, Hannigan regularly performed live with Rice from early 2001 until March 2007 when Rice's official website announced that his professional relationship with Hannigan had "run its creative course". During 2005 Hannigan and Rice co-wrote Unplayed Piano which was released to support the Free Aung San Suu Kyi 60th Birthday Campaign. Hannigan also appeared on backing vocals on Mic Christopher's album Skylarkin, as well as the soundtrack to "Goldfish Memory".
In 2006 Hannigan featured as part of The Cake Sale, a collective of mostly Irish, but featuring some international artists, formed by Brian Crosby of Bell X1. On 3rd November 2006 they released a self-titled album in Ireland to raise money for Oxfam and the Irish Make Trade Fair campaign. The album was so successful that it was given an international release the following year; released 10th September 2007 in the UK and 16th October 2007 in the US.
Hannigan has since gone on to pursue her own solo career, releasing her first album Sea Sew in Ireland on September 12th 2008, debuting at number 4 and earning her a Choice Music Prize nomination, two Meteor Music Award nominations and has been shortlisted for the Mercury Prize 2009. The album's first single was Lille followed by I Don't Know.
Sea Sew got an official US release on February 3rd 2009 and a UK release on May 4th 2009. On 21 July 2009, two days after a triumphant performance in torrential rain at the Latitude Festival, it was announced that Sea Sew had been nominated for the prestigious Mercury Music Prize in the UK.
The O Sleep Songfacts reports that Hannigan began writing for her second album in late 2009 and only completed it in March 2011. However, she and producer Joe Henry spent a mere week laying down the tracks in Wales. Passenger was released in the US and Canada on September 20, 2011 and in the Republic of Ireland on October 7, 2011.

Fall
Lisa Hannigan Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Hang the rich and spare the young
Who drain the spirits from the jars
Hop the fences, steal the cars
Run on fumes and from the north
And burn for us right through the fall
All the ladies call your name
Hitch their dresses past the knees
Spilling to the floor like ease
They swing the bridges one and more
And burn for us right through the fall
All our running ahead, all our running ahead
All our running ahead
And we'll seize the captain's wheel
A mutiny we've come to feel
When [?] their aiming's gone from view
With everything we thought to do
Oh, the devil won't have me
I wonder who will, I wonder who will
All our running is a crawl
And burns for us right through the fall
All our running ahead, all our running ahead
All our running ahead
All our running, all our running
All our running, all our running
The lyrics of Lisa Hannigan’s song “Fall” narrate the story of a group of people who are tired of the status quo and are ready to rebel. The opening line “Hide your horses, hold your tongue” sets a tone of secrecy and implies that whatever actions they are about to take may be controversial. The second line “Hang the rich and spare the young” suggests that they are rebelling against the wealthy and powerful, but are doing so to protect the young and innocent. The following lines “Who drain the spirits from the jars, Hop the fences, steal the cars” show that they are taking action against those who are corrupt and selfish, using whatever means necessary to achieve their goals.
When Hannigan sings “All the ladies call your name, brush your hair like it could be tamed, hitch their dresses past the knees, spilling to the floor like ease,” she paints a picture of women who are ready to fight alongside the men. They are described in powerful and confident terms, as they swing bridges and join the rebellion. The repeated line “All our running ahead” suggests that they are all in this fight together, and the thoughts of mutiny and rebellion are constantly running through their heads. They are willing to take on the risks that come with rebellion, even if they are unsure of what lies on the other side.

Official Lyrics:
Hide your horses, hold your tongue
Hang the rich and spare the young who drain the spirits from the jars
Hop the fences, steal the cars
Run on fumes and from the law
And burn for us right through the fall
Harbour ladies call your names
Brush your hair like it could be tamed
Hitch their dresses past their knees
Spill them to the floor like keys
They swing the bridges one and all
and burn for us right through the fall
All our running...
Time will seize the captain's wheel
A mutiny we've come to feel
When where we're aiming's gone from view
With everything we thought to do
Oh the devil won't have me
I wonder who will
I wonder who will
All our running is a crawl
And burns for us right through the fall
All our running...

this is my version. She can say ahead, but imho it's more just heey, or i'd even go and say she actually sings away in places
The only thing I'm uncertain is the "Spill them to the floor like keys" to me this doesnt make sense..
Hide your horses, hold your tongue,
Hang the rich and spare the young,
Who'd drained the spirits from the jars
Hop the fences, steal the cars,
Run on fumes and from the law
And burn for us right through the fall
All the ladies, call your name,
Brush your hair like it could be tamed,
Hitch their dresses past their knees
Spill them to the floor like keys
They swing the bridges one and all
And burn for us right through that fall
All are running, All are running
I will seize the captain's wheel,
A mutiny will come to few
and well, the rainman's gone from view
with everything we thought to do
Oh, the devil won't have me,
I wonder who will,
I wonder who will,
All our running is a crawl
And burns through us right through the fall
