A stunning vocalist, Hannigan regularly performed live with Rice from early 2001 until March 2007 when Rice's official website announced that his professional relationship with Hannigan had "run its creative course". During 2005 Hannigan and Rice co-wrote Unplayed Piano which was released to support the Free Aung San Suu Kyi 60th Birthday Campaign. Hannigan also appeared on backing vocals on Mic Christopher's album Skylarkin, as well as the soundtrack to "Goldfish Memory".
In 2006 Hannigan featured as part of The Cake Sale, a collective of mostly Irish, but featuring some international artists, formed by Brian Crosby of Bell X1. On 3rd November 2006 they released a self-titled album in Ireland to raise money for Oxfam and the Irish Make Trade Fair campaign. The album was so successful that it was given an international release the following year; released 10th September 2007 in the UK and 16th October 2007 in the US.
Hannigan has since gone on to pursue her own solo career, releasing her first album Sea Sew in Ireland on September 12th 2008, debuting at number 4 and earning her a Choice Music Prize nomination, two Meteor Music Award nominations and has been shortlisted for the Mercury Prize 2009. The album's first single was Lille followed by I Don't Know.
Sea Sew got an official US release on February 3rd 2009 and a UK release on May 4th 2009. On 21 July 2009, two days after a triumphant performance in torrential rain at the Latitude Festival, it was announced that Sea Sew had been nominated for the prestigious Mercury Music Prize in the UK.
The O Sleep Songfacts reports that Hannigan began writing for her second album in late 2009 and only completed it in March 2011. However, she and producer Joe Henry spent a mere week laying down the tracks in Wales. Passenger was released in the US and Canada on September 20, 2011 and in the Republic of Ireland on October 7, 2011.

Prayer For The Dying
Lisa Hannigan Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
For the waves coming in.
And washing the edges,
The edges away from within.
Of your heart.
My heart.
A prayer for the dying,
To feel all opponent,
So misunderstood.
Of your heart.
My heart.
Your heart
My heart
Your heart
My heart
The lyrics to Lisa Hannigan's song Prayer for the Dying seem to be a poignant and reflective piece that speak about the inevitability of mortality and loss. The first line, "A prayer for the dying", could be interpreted as an invocation for those who are nearing the end of their lives or for those who are grappling with grief and sorrow. The lines "For the waves coming in. And washing the edges, The edges away from within." may refer to the tide of emotions that we experience as a result of loss, where the waves are cleansing us of the pain and helping us to heal.
The prayer for the dying is then extended to the "sun coming up", which could represent the dawning of a new era or the hope that things will get better after a period of sadness. The phrase "To feel all opponent, So misunderstood" seems to suggest that it's important to feel and face our emotions, even if they are difficult and complex. The song then closes with the repetition of the lines "Your heart, my heart", which could indicate a sense of shared humanity and the notion that we are all interconnected, even in our sorrow.
Overall, the song seems to convey a sense of empathy and compassion, while acknowledging the difficult realities of life and death.

A prayer for the dying,
A plea for those who are passing away.
For the waves coming in.
For the natural forces that come into our lives.
And washing the edges,
And erasing the boundaries and restrictions.
The edges away from within.
The edges that we've held onto within ourselves.
Of your heart.
Of your innermost being.
My heart.
Of my innermost being.
A prayer for the dying,
A plea for those who are passing away.
For the sun coming up.
For the start of a new day.
To feel all opponent,
To experience all resistance.
So misunderstood.
So that things are not misconstrued or misinterpreted.
Of your heart.
Of your innermost being.

Are these ALL of the lyrics? I can't seem to find them anywhere else- the internet seems to only acknowledge Iron Maiden's lyrics to some other song. How does this happen? What a disservice to Lisa, and her angel voice

hehehe, a beautiful song for sure :)

I think she says "to feel all the colours" instead of "to feel all opponent"
