Unesco has declared the Mexican holiday of Intangible Cultural Heritage to mankind. Day of the Dead is a day celebrated in Brazil as well as "Dia dos Finados", but the holiday does not have the same pre-Hispanic roots that the Mexican holiday has.
The origin of the festival that later on became the Day of the Dead initially marked the ninth month of the Aztec solar calendar, near the beginning of August and held for a month. The festivities were presided over by the goddess Mictecacíhuatl, known as the "Lady Death" (now related to the "La Catrina" by José Guadalupe Posada character) and wife of Mictlantecuhtli, Lord of the land of the dead. The festivities were dedicated to the celebration of children and the lives of deceased relatives.

David Bowie Lyrics
Look up here, I'm in heaven
I've got scars that can't be seen
I've got drama, can't be stolen
Everybody knows me now
Look up here, man, I'm in danger
I've got nothing left to lose
I'm so high it makes my brain whirl
Dropped my cell phone down below
Ain't that just like me?
By the time I got to New York
I was living like a king
There I'd used up all my money
I was looking for your ass
This way or no way
You know, I'll be free
Just like that bluebird
Now, ain't that just like me?
Oh, I'll be free
Just like that bluebird
Oh, I'll be free
Ain't that just like me?

When I read your comment, I immediately thought of Peter Hammill's "Meanwhile My Mother".
Peter influenced Bowie - at least in the late 6os and into the 70s. Early Hammill gets confused for Bowie songs all the time. Check out his first album, Fool's Mate.
Anyway, Peter had a heart attack in the 00s and his next album was this, with the song "Meanwhile My Mother" which is about his mother and her dimentia as she slipped closer to death.
There's no snappy backbeat, and at first, the electric piano sounds a bit silly/odd, but the song is incredibly honest about something that many of us go through with our parents, but isn't a popular subject for song.

I genuinely whole heartedly feel pain in my soul because of how he went, he was a hero of mine in the 90’s. He was a legend. He made this video right before he died.
