Their first release was a double-A-side 7" single on Off The Wall (later signed to Peacefrog) that had two tracks: "Twice" and "Test".
Nagano was born and raised in Göteborg to a Japanese father and American mother. She grew up listening to American folk, but always had an affinity for R&B. Keyboardist Wirenstrand spent his childhood in Småland before moving to Göteborg where listened to a lot of Swedish folk music before getting into electronic music. Bodin grew up listening to early hip-hop and jazz. Fredrik was influenced by experimental, noise and electro house.
Nagano and Bodin play live with José González. Bodin also drums with Peps Perrson, a Swedish blues/reggae artist. Swedish electronic jazz duo Koop's albums Waltz for Koop and Koop Islands feature Yukimi Nagano's vocals on several tracks.
The band collaborated with Gorillaz on two tracks ("Empire Ants" and "To Binge") from their 2010 released album, Plastic Beach. Little Dragon also collaborated with Maximum Balloon (the solo project of David Andrew Sitek, producer and member of TV On the Radio), for one track entitled "If You Return". In 2011, the band's collaboration with SBTRKT on "Wildfire" was released as the lead single from his self-titled début LP.

Little Dragon Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I fell flat on my face but didn't loose
Tell me where would I go
Tell me what led you on I'd love to know
Was it the blue night
Gone fragile
Was it both men
Was it the light ways
So frightening
Was it two wills
One mirror holding us dearer now
Thought I had an answer once
But your random ways swept me along
Colossal signs so I got lost
With so many lovers singing soft
Was it the blue night
Gone fragile
Was it both men
In wonder steady gone under
Was it the light ways
So frightening
Was it two wills
One mirror holding us dearer now
In “Twice” by Little Dragon, the singer is addressing their former lover, trying to understand where their relationship went wrong. The lyrics are introspective, reflecting on the singer’s own actions and emotions, as well as questioning those of their partner. The repeated phrase “was it” suggests a frustration with not understanding what caused the relationship to unravel.
The opening lines “Twice I turn my back on you, I fell flat on my face but didn’t lose” set the tone for the rest of the song. It is clear that the singer has made mistakes and an attempt to end the relationship in the past. However, they are putting their pride aside and are willing to understand what happened between them. As the song continues, the mentioning of “both men in wonder”, “two wills”, and “one mirror holding us dearer now” highlights how the relationship was a shared experience and emphasizes the complexity of understanding what happened. Ultimately, the song conveys a desire to learn and grow from past mistakes, and to move forward with a greater understanding of oneself and relationships.
In terms of the musical composition, the song has a dreamy and atmospheric quality, with electronic beats and sensual vocal tones. The repeated refrain creates a hypnotic effect, inviting the listener to get lost in the emotional journey of the song.
