It starts
And like the rest
It too will end
It will my friend
And if my eyes start turning white
At least I'll know that you thought
I thought I was right
There was
A time
When I thought
I was king
You could be queen
So it's a bad time to hear
It's gonna be a long
And lonely year
So if you can't tell me how you felt
It's probably better I make it up myself
Because if I thought you loved me once
Then I'd be happy
Forever
And who will right
And who will fight
I know I am
And if you're running out of space
Please don't erase your time with me
And tell me
Just like you would
If we were kids
Those things we did
Because it's a god's thing to see
When you're with me
Way back when
So if you can't tell me how you felt
It's probably better that I make it up myself
Because if I thought you loved me once
Then I'd be happy
Forever
The lyrics to Little Green Cars' song "Goodbye Blue Monday" are introspective and melancholic. The start of the song sets the tone for the rest of it, with a somber acknowledgment that everything comes to an end - "And so, it starts, and like the rest, it too will end, it will my friend." The singer then hypothesizes that if their eyes start turning white, at least they'll know that someone thought they were right. This is a nod to the common expression "seeing things in black and white" and the idea that the singer might be steadfast in their beliefs.
The second verse talks about a time when the singer thought they were "king" and someone else could be "queen". However, they soon acknowledge that it's going to be a long and lonely year. The singer then expresses a desire to understand how the other person feels, implying that they may not have expressed their emotions to the singer previously. The chorus of the song is a repetition of a single sentiment - the idea that if the other person loved the singer once, they'd be happy forever.
The bridge is a call to cherish moments with the other person and not erase the time spent with them. The closing lines of the song are a request to go back to being carefree children, reminiscing about the past and the things they did. Overall, the song Goodbye Blue Monday is a poignant commentary on love, loss, and the inevitability of things coming to an end.

And so
The start of something new is looming
It starts
The beginning of a new phase in life is imminent
And like the rest
This new phase will be like others before it
It too will end
This new phase will eventually come to an end
It will my friend
This end is certain
And if my eyes start turning white
If my eyes show signs of aging
At least I'll know that you thought
At least I'll remember that you believed
I thought I was right
I believed I was correct
There was
There existed
A time
A period in the past
When I thought
When I believed
I was king
I had all the power
You could be queen
You had the potential to be as powerful
So it's a bad time to hear
It's not a good moment to find out
It's gonna be a long
The upcoming period will be extended
And lonely year
And lamentable year
So if you can't tell me how you felt
If you can't express your emotions to me
It's probably better I make it up myself
It's likely superior for me to assume them
without your input
Because if I thought you loved me once
Because if I believed you loved me in the past
Then I'd be happy
Then I could find peace
Forever
For eternity
And who will right
Who will correct
And who will fight
Who will conflict
I know I am
I know I am responsible for both
And if you're running out of space
And if you don't have the time or capacity
Please don't erase your time with me
Please don't delete our shared experiences
And tell me
And recall with me
Just like you would
The way you did before
If we were kids
If we were young again
Those things we did
The activities we engaged in
Because it's a god's thing to see
Because it's a miracle to witness
When you're with me
When in my presence
Way back when
In the far, distant past
So if you can't tell me how you felt
So if you can't express your emotions to me
It's probably better that I make it up myself
It's likely superior for me to assume them
without your input
Because if I thought you loved me once
Because if I believed you loved me in the past
Then I'd be happy
Then I could find peace
Forever
For eternity
